They still have the best goalkeeper in the land, the more organised defence and a midfield who do the basics much better than ours, and Hazard will be up for it. They'll just wait for us to make unforced errors, as we do in every game, even against the more 'straightforward' opponents.
Granted, we're in a position ninety sides in the country would love to be in, and it's not all woe, but we're not playing well at the moment and the current manager struggles to motivate the players as soon as the chips go down.
where can I take Douchie Snr to watch the City game? He drinks wine and doesn't like the smell of urine. I'm talking upmarket here
that's the place where last time he said it stank of urine
tbf if you're anywhere near the toilets, it does stink of urine
or basement of montpelliers
a fancy hotel bar will be probs be showing it
maybe take your coat
If you can get a seat in the back room by the fire then it's pretty wine-dad friendly.
i don't want to take my dad anywhere i like, as he'll do something obnoxious or embarrassing
he is a tit, you see
is Toure back? if he isn't - Chelsea win, if he is, think Chelsea will still win. City seem to choke more than a granny at a finger buffet
But City's best performances this year have either been regardless of Toure or without him, like against Roma and Bayern.
Kompany and Aguero being up to speed will be more important. Really hope we don't play Milner left and Navas right wing, too.
absolutely infuriating to watch over the last month or so.
As Parsy says, it has got to the point where he's so ineffective because every full back knows what he's going to do now. All they have to do is to show him onto his left and he'll just cross it into their shins. He won't even have much of a pace advantage over Azpilicueta.
makes me yearn for them to be comprehensively demolished by Man City today. I doubt that will happen though, unfortunately.
In other news, in a commendable example of democracy, Wrexham are offering fans a chance to vote on options for next season's kit:
The vote is limited to members of the Supporters Trust, though, presumably to prevent mischievous Chester fans voting en bloc for option 4.
Home: play in a Stoke shirt or the Welsh national team? Away: plain yellow or Chester colours? Pretty difficult to call that one!
About as democratic as Cardiff from the 4th best team in Wales...
we were 1-0 down after about 20 seconds. if we could hold out for maybe a minute or two against Middlesbrough then I think I'll declare a moral victory.
also if nothing could happen in the first five minutes because I'm running late, that'd be swell.
and i'd be surprised if city come out with 3 points. no fabregas and costa is relatively big but chelsea can set up conservatively and still have the quality to expose city. hopefully city can score first then we might have a game on our hands.
probably gonna watch the pool-wham game before that, got potential if west ham play as well as they can do against a liverpool side who played 120 minutes in midweek.
our game at home against villa should be relatively routine. looks like no sanchez so likely gonna see ozil, cazorla and walcott behind giroud. hopefully wenger finds a way to cram rosicky into the lineup too.
massive cringe at this, especially the hamstring bit https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B8o0xHPCcAA13fi.jpg:large
if he stays fit he can be such a good player
Beating South Korea 2-1 in extra time. Swindon's Mass Luongo wins player of the tournament.
Sepp Blatter gets booed again.
Pretty happy about it tbh.
Before they discover he's permacrocked.
come on leeds!
so many good attacking midfielders in the league right now
but this fucking website lost it. it was half reasonable, half bitter, so let's see how the second attempt goes.
disappointed to half lost that match, think a draw would have been a fair result and if we'd taken our chances we could have been 2 or 3 up by the time Boro got their penalty, which was entirely Dean's fault for not just clearing it and trying to be clever instead. Gray should have scored when he was clean through but essentially just passed it to the keeper, Dallas could have had a hat trick but kept just missing and hit the inside of the post, and nearly scored at the end from a corner. Long didn't do anything when he came on, so still need another striker I reckon.
referee was an absolute prick though, seemingly different criteria for yellow cards for Brentford and Middlesbrough players, let them waste as much time as they wanted in the second half, stopped the game so Middlesbrough could make a substitution when the player coming on was still on the bench and not even ready, and don't recall him playing advantage once in the entire match. linesmen were just as shit too.
Middlesbrough weren't all that either, didn't do anything in the first half, second half they had chances because of the gaps we left while pressing for an equaliser and wasted time as if their lives depended on it, Fredericks getting top timewaster award. big fan of them going to try and hold the ball in the corner on 85 minutes too.
(w/apologies to h. lloris)
is harry kane actually any good? his return this season is impressive and its maybe getting to the stage where my casually dismissive attitude might be wide of the mark. so is he the striker you'll build the team round over the next few seasons or do you think an upgrade is necessary?
whether he's proper proper les ferdinand/robbie fowler good, or just above average prem striker like good remains to be seen, but he's only 21. an 'upgrade' on him on this seasons form would cost at least £40m
Completely ineffective at international tournaments way so many English strikers are.
So it is understandable to be casually dismissive of him until he proves himself over more than one season. Assuming Adebayor and/or Soldado leave, even if only on loan, someone else would need to be brought in. Letting one of them go before the deadline without bringing a replacement would be such a Levy thing to do though.
c.f. benteke, cisse etc. It's much easier for a striker to suddenly gain amazing form and then lose it again the next season than in any other positiong imo
Buying a striker after a 'breakthrough' season usually ends badly. Whichever teams ends up buying Berahino is probably going to regret it.
your lot are proper proper shit,eh? relegation fodder, even with all those parachute payments. Slade bringing in dross as well. Malone!
under which Chelsea will undoubtedly thrive. Going to be an absolute bloodbath of a 2-1.
but it's nice to win a game for once.
terribly boring, but at least defense picked up their game, Stones and Besic looked really good.
Chelsea team look tired after playing 120 mins in midweek and are without 2 key players. City need to make the most of this opportunity and get all 3 points.
aguero shouldve scored..
wasnt easy but shouldve been 0-1
I like football, I'm supposed to like this.
Just feels like watching two streetwalkers having a spat.
its how the big teams play each other..
both a bit reserved wanting to counter attack their way out of things.. then ends up with one team passing it round the 18 yard box for 5 minutes
he's gone back to his 12/13 level i.e. hopeless
however i am glad that these teams are currently drawing
as everyone on the pitch walk off oblivious for half time
trainers coming over.. you need a stretcher!!?
nah.. get up, feign a hobble for 3 steps then trots off to a slap on the arse from the manager
Me and three colleagues have each put in £1000 to win £2000 between us. Seems like an absolutely straightforward bet to me. Money for nothing. The stakes might seem big, but it how you beat the bookies - big stakes for big profit. Oooosh!
It's hard to believe there's 4 people in the same company who would think this way lad, you're stretching it now.
Put a ton on a city win at 16/5.
think Chelsea in their fully operational state would be holding this City side at arm's length pretty comfortably. It's really weird seeing a Mourinho side concede a lead like that so fast, difficult to know what to pin their sudden lack of defensive cohesion on now that Scapehill has been sent packing. Nice to see Navas reacting well to the anti-banter.
The Africa Cup of Nations picks the wrong time to have its first exciting game (or half a game anyway), as Congo do a Chelsea against the other Congo.
Bet big, win big!
City should be ashamed of themselves not getting a second there.
if Everton don't finish higher on the table...
That is perfect.
why doesn't he just fuck off and turn down the contract offer if he wants to go.
Like when Suarez signed a new deal.. and didn't Ronaldo sign one relatively close to leaving?
If you are going to let a player go, it's best not to let them slip away on a free. It probably works best for Mendes to sell him for as much money as possible too... and in this case, we're dealing with a team who actually seem to enjoy paying MORE for their players.
I assume the "release clause" will be set some way above the price we would get for him now, but one that Mendes knows Real would be more than happy to pay.
Think they need to make their minds up who the better team is.
compare whether City's majestic trying to win the game one point has any more weight than Chelsea's dirty stampy one point.
There was no great import to yesterday's game. A Chelsea win would have been nice, but clearly not essential, a draw keeps City choking in our dust and let's face it, a defeat wouldn't have cost anyone at the Bridge any sleep.
If one team was so good and the other so poor, why was there nothing between them?
is quite a neat example of the difference in attitudes between the two sets of supporters i think. We'll carry on expecting not to win the title, just like last year, and in 2012.
Not all City fans are as doom and gloom as you it would seem!
While City have enjoyed a decent start to sit second in the table during the international break, they are five points behind leaders Chelsea at this early stage.
Asked to predict the top six as part of an online survey, Blues supporters were of no doubt that the current top two would compete for the title. And it was almost a dead heat, with just 14 from over 2000 votes separating the two teams. Those extra 14 went the way of Chelsea, but fans expect City to run Jose Mourinho’s side all the way.
Like I said, not all City fans are as doom and gloom as you it would seem
If City were five points clear, the results of the surveys would be reversed. As an alleged betting man, you'd put your money on the very good team that's out in front ahead of the possibly not quite as good team that is currently behind. There's a reason why you get better odds on City than you do on Chelsea at the moment.
so yes, they're favourites. They've picked up more points. How they play is completely irrelevant, there are no extra points for attractive football. Doubt a betting person would back a heavily odds on side on a long-term bet, though. It's more likely they'd look at each club's recent titles, with City winning two in three years, both from 8-9 points behind, and Chelsea winning one title in eight seasons, and having thrown last season's away. In that respect, if you were aiming to win money, you'd probably take your chances on City rather than backing Chelsea now, unless you were playing with an absolutely huge amount of money, but as i say, it's Chelsea's to lose.
apart from City winning two in three years, both from 8-9 points behind, and Chelsea winning one title in eight seasons, and having thrown last season's away...
I haven't missed the nerves associated with these games.
Fourteen times the salary of the Prime Minister...to sit there in the stands with his head in his hands.
joely glazer and three colleagues just chip in 25k each
...surely anyone looks like top value in any kind of comparison to David Cameron?
Probably worth sticking a tenner on them to win
Not helped by the disgraceful pitch and mental ref.
genuinely some of the weirdest decisions I've ever seen given. over and over again.
Watching in some shady pub in Rotherhithe with two of my Glasgow (thistle) pals. Where did you end up?
Who is insisting that the ref is celtic :")
Also heard the pitch was laid by travelling people so a bit of a double whammy
He did this to my dartboard
Villa, or the whole of Scottish football forever.
i really like all our young players. Y'know bellerin, chambers, akpom and gnabry. LOVE bellerin i think.
But at least our fans have a bit of life about them and don't sit about like automatons and bet against their own team.
it would be nice for him to mix it up a bit and bet some of his industry award-winning millions on a couple of scoreless draws now and then. However, he is just providing what his fan base wants.
with players coming back and a kind fixture list over the next few weeks we could put together a good little run here. thought everyone played well today. champions league race should be pretty entertaining with 5 teams in with a shout and us spurs and villa all in good form.
Daniel Kelly: Aston Villa are dreadful. Maybe being relegated will be for the best, they may come back a better team... who SCORE!!
What position they were playing in. Still think Scott Brown fouled McCulloch on the second goal to stop him blocking the shot from Commons but you just don't get these when the referee was on the books with Celtic as a youth.
Rangers never in danger of scoring on account of being utterly dreadful. Ref was a total embarrassment.
Arsenal have to very much be considered title contenders now (non-sarcastic post).
11 points is too much for them to overtake
Are they? No.
the slightly slower older brother.
shelvey #MAMA #decent
Congratulations on your genius fantasy win (I actually fancied a punt on this one but im locked out of my betting account).
For Le Tissier's overuse of hair gel! Like an extra from Cocktail. < 3
Thank god he's gone. Absolutely terrible manager. Right up there with Platt and Megson. For a squad this decent to be looking over their shoulder at relegation is nothing short of astonishingly bad.
I was on my way out as the goal went in. It was bloody freezing and I'd had enough. Felt awful to the poor sod I'd dragged along too.
The fact this elicited a serious reply is depressing.
about how it was 'a moment of madness' and he 'deserved to be banned for 10 or 20 years. Stupid twat
but Ozil genuinely wasn't completely shit earlier
At the moment anyway. Wouldn't be surprised if they managed to concede a few more, their defence is shocking.
They reach the knockout stages after a drab group stage and the goals start coming. Ivory Coast and Ghana are two of the biggest ACN bottlers of late so I'm sure one or both of them will do the same again.
4 goals in 10 minutes either side of half time
hope it stays like that and they water the goalmouths before the next cup match
that you didn't get a televised game. Villa v Leicester? Piss off.
no idea why, will be a horrible game
