we've got to cook for 4 tonight. will be very rushed as we won't get home until the guests are due. what should we cook?
...then go with salmon as anyone who doesn't like salmon has got something wrong with them. Steam it, bake it, fry it, microwave i - it's hard to fuck up too badly and you're unlikely to kill anyone even if you badly undercook it.
Serve with a side of steamed spinach and garlic (circa 5 minutes prep) and maybe mash (circa 20 minutes prep). Obviously sweet potato mash if you're LME.
don't like salmon
actually, I don't like cooked salmon for some reason. smoked salmon is nice.
it's a nightmare sometimes. haddock is king
Jugging is going to be bang on trend in 2014. Move away from the traditional hare and branch out in whatever direction you choose. Get your ingredients, jug them, job done.
Quick, easy, tasty.
I would eat that
Really really nice.
I just used some chopped tomatoes simmered with a bit of sugar for the sauce.
Sweet Potato Burritos
garlic bread, sour cream, green salad.
but not 6. there is a line.
And had it again last week.
rosemary and chilli polenta with tomato sauce and a nice salad
leek, pea and blue cheese risotto
I wish I liked polenta cos that sounds nice.
you can't not like polenta, it just takes on the flavour of whatever you cook it with!
with some working-class ones.
I've cancelled tonight now though, got to apply for a job I REALLY want.
Homemade falafel with hummous and veg cous cous.
Put 2 cans of drained chickpeas, a roughly chopped onion, couple of garlic cloves, parsley, coriander and maybe some harissa if you have it into a food processor/blend it all up. Add seasoning and a few of spoons of s/r flour to help form some burger shaped patties. Shallow fry in a frying pan for 5 minutes on each side.
Put some peppers and courgettes in a saucepan, fry them up in a bit of oil and salt. When softened, add two cups of couscous, a stock cube or two dissolved in 3 cups of water, some parsley/mint/coriander, mix it all up. Serve with a big dollop of hummous and a wedge of lemon. BOOM
I've been meaning to make falafels for a while.
Made home-made hummus a few weeks ago and wasn't overly keen but I will have another go at that too.
but yeah, i'd be up for eating these falafels. maybe next time?
Always coming in my yard
Was a bit desperate last night and made a LENTIL SHEPHERDS PIE (a lentil-herds pie?).
It was delicious. I shit you not.
Used those lentil vertes that are a bit like Puy but not so expensive.
I put a raw egg and some butter in the mash
don't normally but it gave it a lovely crust.
i too often ruin my crust by grating cheese on it too, halfway through cooking. perhaps ruin isn't the right word, but there's a different joy to having a crusty cheeseless potato topping
don't understand how to cook lentils without them going mushy
the green ones usually have a decent texture to them, as long as you don't over cook them
knew I'd somehow got the fundamentals wrong
there's got to be some gargantuan lentil snob on this site that will school me on them but i'm reckon they're pretty much the same thing.
