Conor Sammon to start for Ireland against Poland. Just a reminder of how worse things could be.
what are his indescretions everyone is on about?
shagging someone? is that it?
and defended a non-racist
total twat, basically.
like stevie G wouldve done (i presume..) he was his team mate.. capello supported him at the time..
the shooting things a good one though forgot that.
married a racist to cover up his own bisexuality
moved from one London club to another for a pay raise
is by all accounts a complete arsehole
think that's it
used a mobile phone as a "gay sex toy".
Forgot all about that, brilliant.
Lest we forget
This is a crime in Football?
(not a euphemism for that News of the World story)
I find his weird antagonistic attitude endearing. That said, I wish Baines was playing instead.
He's a prick, but at least he fully commits to it
on the pitch for England he has been an absolute legend easily our best left back ever and our best player at the last 4 international tournaments.

but he seems to have done alright for himself
great player at Saints, what's he been up to since?
and captained Elfsborg to the Swedish League title the season after he left Southhampton (2006) and another title last season. His injury in the run-in in 2008 probably cost them the title too (they came 2nd)
He's like a
for the people of Borås
His post-CL final interviews copleted me
pretty annoying. who's the other barcelona club?
Must have been inspired by new grounds in this country for the new one as it is located in the middle of nowhere, miles from town.
in Madrid. poo
don't get the cable car.
it's bigger than i thought.
(don't reply to this)
Xabi Alonso appears to like MBV and Spirituliazed <3
Belle & Sebastian
what a guy.
he's just a footballer who has music tastes you don't disagree with, it's not like he has done anything heroic is it?
Honestly no clue where our next manager is going to come from. The fact that the likes of Mick McCarthy steered well clear over the summer was a bad sign, who the fuck would want such a shit job?
Can't see how anyone with Championship experience would want it, which only leaves people who've been sacked by lower division clubs for being shit.
We can go to Barnet v Forest in a couple of years, that'll be nice.
*escape on the last day of the season
1,800 Southend fans in full voice. Freezing night and a generally scrappy game with a lot of the game played in the air. Both teams had good spells and we were a bit lucky to win 1-0 but fuck it. Great night.
Second time I've seen a good Southend player break a leg there. Nasty.
Great result though, 1-0 sets it up nice for back at the Hall. You been to many games this years Sean?
That's the first Southend game I've seen since Torquay away back at the end of last season.
L2 hasn't been much fun!
Went down by two after ten minutes so expected a drubbing. Should have won it really but would have taken a draw after 11 minutes so hey.
'When you have an opportunity you must take it. When it's not easy, you have to look ahead and demand more from yourself. That's just my motto'
so how about tonight
in his 100th game
what do you reckon?
I'd love to see that. The Premier League has made International Friendly's so meaningless we may as well go the whole hog and just play everyone out of position in their pants.
Wigan assistant manager Graeme Jones and ex Chelsea assistant Eddie Newton. Both would be interesting appointments, and Hoyle has a record of giving people their first jobs in management (Lee Clark).
Positive for me is that its not just a name off the managerial merry go round. If it was the start of pre season, I'd definitely rather give someone like this a go rather than a Megson or a Coyle or the like. However, at this stage in the season, where we're in a relegation battle, there's definitely something to be said for a manager with a bit more experience. I'd almost like to see someone like Megson be given it in a Benitezesque capacity until the end of the season, then let someone new have it. Definitely don't want Megson full time. Just don't like the guy.
he'll keep you up, get rid of the dead weight and bring in players with a strong mentality. not everyone's cup of tea but we liked him (a lot) at wednesday and west brom fans still think highly of him
graeme jones seems to be the bookies' favourite though
I think its a great idea, however there are so many flaws with the scoring system (as many people have questioned in the comments) its actually driving me up the wall now!
the fact Drogba isn't in there after scoring in about 100 finals.
it's obviously a massive task to tally up the scorers from every final/semi in every cup competition in every league for the past 50 years or so...but surely something like this needs to be done to give it any credence.
weirdly it has world cup second group stages, tho no quarter final points...?
At one point there were two group stages, with the winners going into the semi finals. And, in 1950 the whole thing was done with group stages and it was just luck that the last game was a decider.
You'd have to come up with something pretty comprehensive and subtly balanced to do this properly, but it's interesting enough.
Berlusconis are the worst
it's zidane. thanks
Given that Kvist will be suspended, and Bendtner injured, for the next two qualifying matches (very important matches including Czech Republic away) tonight should go some way in determining who should be their replacements. I'd imagine Cornelius and Sloth are the most likely solutions.
Schmeichel will get his Denmark debut. Lindegaard and Andersen haven't been getting first team football for their respective clubs of late so it's finally Kasper's turn to lay claim to the first choice slot.
I'm hoping Olsen plumps for Okore over Kjær. Okore's proven time and again that he's ready, mostly recently with a convincing performance against Mexico last week, and Kjær's seemingly out of favour at Wolfsburg again following a horrendous error against Hannover.
Half want it to be true, and half think "oh jesus"
He certainly has that Paul Lambert 2009-12 ability to drill a team so well that they perform beyond expectation/ability, but he's also a self-destructive, stubborn, unstable, nasty piece of work. All his jobs seem to end with him cutting off his nose to spite his face, which is asking for trouble with the current owners.
that's how I annoyed I am by it.
weren't they the future of football, yesterday?
Denmark will be tiki taka-ing with the best of them.
for coming up 13 years now, it's just very obviously time for new blood managerially as much as it is on the pitch. And it will be after the World Cup, when Olsen's contract expires...he's not renewing. Time for Michael Laudrup to step in.
It'll be good to see how Wilshere, Walcott, Cleverley and Welbeck play together. I assume Clevs will be on the left though which isnt ideal.
Cahill has had far more gametime this season.
Welbeck left and Cleverley behind Rooney would probably work better,
or maybe it'll be;
going rather well so far.
Hope all of Chelsea's samba lot get hauled off at half time. Half wish I'd bothered getting tickets now.
Fuck off Roy Keane.
I wasn't even sure if he was still alive...
Thought he did the classic Brazilian thing of be good for a year, then get really fat and go off the rails....
I'm going to assume that he's being sarcastic.
Rubbish goalie, one of the worst in the league.
90 minutes completed stat.
There's been some chronic decision making around the 18 yard box by Neymar and his mates.
Like one of those FIFA goals where the camera doesn't pan out fast enough for you to realise you're running straight into three attackers
but it's still true
Shooting people > blogging playlists
or just go forward. Baines for one, Cole for the other.
He's on 50ish appearances in all competitions since last May now. Surprised he hasn't keeled over rather than annoyed.
first acon final. face nigeria at the weekend for the prize and the chance to face the likes of brazil, spain and tahiti at the confederations cup this year.
Not that it really matters. Hadn't realised Dani Alves wss playing until 10 minutes ago.
him and oscar seemed loads better than the rest of the players on the pitch.
No stepovers, no feints, he just seems to breeze past anyone he likes.
germany just scored a goal
Kept possession for large periods of the game and actually were creating things. It makes a real difference having someone like Wilshere in there who can run at the defense and create something.
Gerrard was good again in the middle of the park. When he plays deeper and plays more spraying balls insteaad of going for the killer through ball hes very effective.
Walcott could have done more but when he did run at Adriano made him look like a bit of a mug.
I thought the defense did pretty well and it was only a ropey couple of minutes were Cahill lost it a bit. He played well in the first half i thought.
A lot of times in the past England have beat teams and fooled people into thinking they'd played well. I think they genuinely played well tonight, it was only a friendly though.
Wilshere and Walcott were outstanding.
no idea if it was deserved or not.
but I still worry that Woy picking Gerrard and Terry over Lampard and Rio will come back to haunt him.
england - 6
brazil - 18
columbia - 5
greece - 11
ecuador - 12
switzerland - 13
due to hosting the World Cup.
Colombia really are a very good side.
Course, England's ranking always seems a bit high, but again, weighted by relatively routine qualifying campaigns. Given they're perrenial quarter-finalists, though, probably not outrageous.
is to look at the number of points between them rather than purely the ranking.
Spain have 1606, Germany 1437 and Argentina 1290. England have 1151. The difference between Spain and England is 455. You'd be ranked 76th in the world if you had 455 points.
Seems he might be joining Crystal Palace on loan. I'm not sure what I'd think about this. No doubt he would be great at Championship level but he is a bit of a twat.
who cares? hed be quality for them
Apparently its a loan with a view to a permanent transfer if we go up.
We have so many loanees at the moment. Though that worked for Holloway at Blackpool.
Wilfried Zaha from Manchester United
Kevin Philips from Blackpool
Stephen Dobbie from Brighton
Jazz Richards from Swansea
Jacob Butterfield from Norwich
how lower-league clubs are allowed to compete when they can't even afford to own their own players.
rent a team to get promoted, then get some journeymen or cast offs from relegated teams to try and stay up.
meanwhile top clubs buy the best young players.. they dont get in the starting 11 so either get loaned out, or fight for a 3 min sub appearance or play in the carling cup.
