New Superman: Man of Steel trailer
Is there a thread for this? I did some CTRL+Fing but nothing came up.

Not a fan: music choice is far too portentous. It looks like Smallville, FFS.
Here's the old thread I started:

I would have bumped it but then I realised I had a really good discussion with dukebox and felt a bit sad. :(

Classic disappearing thread.
Smallville is shit, for the record.
I felt a bit like the trailer (although this could be due to the film's tone itself) was trying too hard
it was a little too dark and serious with its poignant and sometimes dramatic music over lots of shots of no dialogue save for the VO.
It could be great but the trailer makes it look a bit too much like they're going "Hey, we can do dark and mysterious too, just like Batman!"
should have had this music

how do you think he shaves his superbeard?
With his laser vision reflected off a mirror!
There's a picture of him doing this somewhere.
I personally think it looks utterly fucking incredible.
You like emo Superman?
I don't get why you would? It all seems achingly un-fun. Superman should be more like The Avengers rather than The Dark Knight.
But - that wouldn't work if they are to make a Justice League movie.
So this means that they will. I prefer a realistic take on Superman, otherwise there's no jeopardy, or anyhting else. It's just a guy impossible to defeat.
Do you mean because Batman and Superman have to both be in it?
Batman doesn't have to be all po-faced and serious either, you know? I'm a fan of Nolan's films but I also like Burton's take. There's certainly a lot of licence in Batman and you can be very comic book without descending to Schumacher's and the 60s series' levels.
As for jeopardy, he's always going to be Superman and any film (like pretty much any superhero film) will revolve around the few things/people that can equal or wound him. The original two films have a fair amount of soul-searching but they don't get dragged down into whiney moaning like Smallville. He's an alien so I can't really see how 'realistic' you can make him.
Batman doesn't have to be all po-faced and serious either
the success of the Dark Knight trilogy would suggest that to renege on that might be highly ambitious.
There are a lot of factors to that success that are nothing to do with it being 'dark'.
Equally The Avengers beat the The Dark Knight Rises hands down at the box office and Iron Man has done spectacularly well (even with that utter nothing of a second movie).
When Justice League comes about there'll be a new Batman around so they'll be able to pitch it differently. Batman has always had a certain sense of melancholy around him but that doesn't mean he can't work with a brighter, more positive Superman, any more than The Hulk's brooding can't work with Captain America and Iron Man.
When you go back and watch Superman I and II, slapstick stuff aside, there's a lot of humanity to Clark Kent and a lot for audiences to relate to, but it's well tempered. Right now this trailer is making it look like we'll just have a brooding Superman. Hopefully (like I say) they can get to the main bit of the film quickly and ditch the origin story stuff.
The Avengers beat the The Dark Knight Rises hands down at the box office
There was an ever so slightly mitigating factor behind that though
You mean 3D?
TDKR had IMAX in its favour which boosted revenues, I reckon.
No
Due to the horrific shooting in Colorado, WB pulled most of the first fortnight of marketing, in some countries all of it, out of respect
Ah right.
Okay, but we're into the realms of maybes here.
My point was only that The Avengers (and Marvel's general success) shows it's not just about being 'dark' and 'realistic' that pulls in the punters. To look at the success of Nolan's Batman films and say, "dark and realistic is what sells for superheros," just seems blinkered to me.
Not really
WB forceast an opening weekend of $200m. Following the shooting at a midnight showing they only took $80m. Reports across the US of empty screenings, as well as numerous incidents of panic at showings of people shouting *GUN!* or pretending to have bombs
Amazing wankers.
The fact he's an alien is what drives the 'deeper' aspects of any Superman story.
How can he bond with these earthlings? What attachment does he have for them beyond the kindness of of adoptive parents? How can Lois love him, or he love Lois?
Smallville IS moany and whining, but I like the idea of it, even if the result was boring.
I read your post in my head in the voice of Werner Herzog.
I think you'll agree it works very well.
:D
Either that or Slavoj Zizek.
first part looks like a malick film
snyder needs to chill the fuck out. It's a superman film for chrissakes!
really can't be arsed with origin stories
how do you feel about seriousface superhero films?
It'll only be getting shoved in there to adher to some requirement
of the licensing that Warner Bros has.
I doubt anyone who will be going to see the film, or is at all interested in it will not have some idea that he's <SPOILER>
an alien from a planet that got blowed up.
</SPOILER>
What I'm interested in is whether or not Krypto is going to be in this one or not. if not they can shove it up their collective arseholes sideways.
Russell Crow is in it playing Jor-El so I imagine its there is some capacity, possibly flashback or whatever.
you can see in the trailer the destruciton of Krypton.
also, he's not made a typo, but actually referring to this:

:D
Looks like Frank.
:D
Ah.
Well if Snyder can make that sit with the gritty tone, I can't wait to see it :)
Slow-mo poop-cleaning scene in Central Park.
Also, if I ever get a dog, I'm going to call him Eart
Um, I think he means
