Total Recall Remake / Superman: Man of Steel
Saw the trailers for both of these last night.
Total Recall looks just...pointless. As remakes go it seems like they've simply copied every memorable scene as dull and ploddingly as possible. I'd have been willing to give it a go but I can't see myself not remember each classic moment from the original as they come up.
Superman...well with this was utterly dull on the internet but worked better in the cinema for sure. However, without the Williams theme I can't really see it working. I watched the Superman Returns trailer the other day and in spite of the film it still gave me goosebumps. This just seems like Smallville, which isn't very encouraging, really.

Wrong board?
Never really been a big Superman film. I mean, what kind of foe does he have? Some green rock?
It really annoyed me that Nolan is producing it and they're using the same font and leading (space between letters fact fans) for it too. Surely Superman deserves his own look?
Oh yeah, that's where it went.
I think the look's there to draw people in as part of The Dark Knight Rises.
Prime opportunity for TehoGB to post right now
Did you
see the extended Superman ComicCon trailer? Looks excellent.
No it doesn't, it still looks like Smallville.
Emo Superman? Jesus wept. CAN WE JUST HAVE A SUPERHERO WHO'S SUPER, PLEASE?
Sorry.
There is some action at the end it's true. I dunno, the whole feeling of it is really too weighed down for me.
Guys, I got totally duped by a fan-made Comic-Con trailer
It turns out it's just boring Smallville esque like the teaser, really.
Come back.
Total Recall just looks like every other big futuristic sci-fi of recent years,
I wish Hollywood would just get over it and come up with some new designs. Ever since Minority Report.
nevermind the fact that it's a total waste of time. The original was ace, but I get the feeling this won't be.
Can't be arsed with Superman.
^ This!
Getting pissed off with the amount of remakes and prequels and sequels 20 years after a film is released. It's really bad in the Sci-Fi genre right now. It's obvious the big Hollywood studios are just interested in the box office intake.
It's not as if there's not good, new and original Sci-Fi ideas out there, look at Moon and Cloverfield and District 9 - great movies!
I love District 9.
Great transition from a docu-style to an all out action and has proper emotions, (proper tunes and proper haircuts etc.)
FOOKIN PRAWNS MON
DON'T YOU POINT YOUR FOOKIN TENTACLES AT ME!!
Ruins me every time.
FOOK MON, FOOOOOOOOOOOK
isn't Superman being done by Zach Snyder?
don't really need to say anymore
I don't mind Superman cos Henry Cavill is a Grade A hunk
and I wish him all the best.
Total Recall is going to get 1-star reviews across the board.
Superman is a cunt

An American, an Englishman, and an Irishman are standing on the top of the Empire State building...
it's ok guys
it was announced late last night that Joss Whedon has signed on to write and direct the sequel to The Avengers
let's hope he does a better job second time round then
^^^ Lynch the heathen.
AND do a Marvel TV show.
Fucking ACE!
I'm less convinced by thw
dan_thw?
me too
good work
I'm less convinced by them spinning TV shows off from the MCU. it works so well as it is and we're gonna be getting two films a year for at least the next four years, so where's the need?
Well different stories for one thing.
You do a Marvel superhero film and it pretty much has to be SAVING THE WHOLE WORLD. If you have a TV show you can cover a different sort of ground or run with a much longer plot.
Maybe
but how do you reconcile that with a series of big budget movies that have a pretty intricate and interlocking background? You're not gonna get the guys from the movies turning up in it, but at the same time there'll be points where it won't make any sense for them not to turn up.
With the exception of RDJr none of them are *that* big.
I assume Marvel will be going for the big bucks TV show feel and we've seen a lot more acceptance from movie stars of TV work.
scarlett johanssen is pretty famous
http://twitter.com/SamuelLJackson
Jackson was in Snakes on a Plane.
I think that shows you that he picks stuff based on fun before wages.
Is Johanssen that famous in terms of acting? I'm not really sure how high a price she can command on screen.
We're talking about a world where Glenn Close has done two different TV shows. Wassername off True Blood was in the X-Men films and Heroes has Malcolm McDowell. There was a time when there was a big split between the two mediums but it's not true as much thanks to the quality of shows being produced.
i really just wanted to post samuel l jacksons olympics coverage on twitter
i get that it isnt as different now as it was tho but id guess it probably depends on how available any of these guys need to be for the tv series and whether the younger actors are so into the idea cuz i mean glenn close and malcolm mcdowell are both veteran actors who have been in hundreds of movies
i do hope youre not suggesting people only know who scarjo is because of her boobs theo and id suspect jeremy renner and probably even mark ruffalo can get enough movie work these days not to need to work in tv but who knows
Renner's hardly the big well-known one of the series.
We're getting a bit off the point here, which is that I don't think it's inconceivable that you could get these guys to guest star in some episodes of this proposed show if needs be.
The only reason they're in the films is because they've all agreed to sign up to long-term deals and they must have agreed to do it at non-crippling rates otherwise Marvel couldn't be making these sorts of plans.
And as for Johanssen I just don't feel like she has a great deal of screen presence. Probably means that she's actually a great actress, I guess.
I seem to remember that Terrence Howard (Rhodes) in the first Iron Man film
was the highst paid actor in it (yes higher then RDJ) so I think they got them all on a budget. And none of the actors are exactly A-list (or certainly weren't before Avengers). Before Iron Man RDJ was considered washed up.
idk
having screen presence doesnt really relate to whether shes figuratively too big for tv and i was just pointing out renner as another person who might figuratively be too big for tv but if he doesnt matter thats ok fair enough
and as i said yes it probably depends on how available they would need to be and whether the younger actors were into it but i agree its not inconceivable but really who knows theo who knows
I was about to say that
as much as I loved The Avengers, I'd hate it if all superhero flicks adopted the same approach as Whedon did with the Avengers.
Then I stopped to think about the other approaches we've seen over the years and I realised that I'd much prefer it if all superhero flicks adopted the same approach as Whedon did with the Avengers.
Get your ass to Mars!!!
... or not in this case.
Pointless remake.
supermanman
half man half superman?
I thought the Man of Steel trailer was excellent.
E
I would have thought that Theo would have possessed the wizardry to just make this thread move forums
and just like that he does it eh?
so now we know he has no excuse not to help us when we post in the wrong place eh?
;)
can someone provide me with a working link of the comic con footage?
fank u
I just youtubed and it came up.
but ctrl+c ctrl+v is too much for you
you monster
My sentence was a little unclear it's true.
I meant that when I wanted to see it I just youtubed and it came up. I did't have the URL to hand.
Recall looks bunk
But I’m trying to keep an open mind about Superman. The trailer looked surprisingly un-Snyder ish and I quite liked the ‘existential’ tone.
Chuffed that Whedon will be doing Avengers 2, but I’m still a bit worried about a Guardians Of The Galaxy film (Rocket Raccoon!).
Still, mostly excited about Ant Man.
I'm presuming that the Guardians film will be to set Thanos up
as the villain for the Avengers sequel.
(I don't know anything about GotG though)
Very tired of remakes
Re-imaginings based on already flexible source material are one thing, with an acceptable timespan in between (hiya Spiderman) is one thing, but to remake something from 20 years ago is pointless. The original stars a male and female lead who are still household names today, it's on DVD, and has been on TV countless times since too. No wonder the remake flops, there's no need to see it.
+ it's brilliant
see also: Judge Dredd. Fuck off, please
hahaha
no way.
No way to what?
Total Recall and Judge Dredd being brilliant films? I hope this isn't what you mean coz they are BRILLIANT films.
GET YOUR ARSE TO MARS
I AM THE LAW
Brilliant
re: Dredd
stop trolling
It's not as bad as people make out, but it can certainly CERTAINLY be bettered.
Am I not allowed to genuinely love Judge Dredd now?
sorry guntrip
also the trailer for the remake looks shit
There's a trailer now?
*goes to hunt for it*
Okay, that CGI is rough as guts
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PifvRiHVSCY
But you've got to admire them coming up with a drug's side effects purely so they could use loads of Slow-Mo. I'm surprised Zack Snyder wasn't begging to direct.
i don't have to admire ANYTHING
consididididavorwace
Fucking hate Superman
He's invincible so there's never a threat unless...OH THERE WE GO! A glowing rock. Didn't see that one coming.
And for all the chat about Bale's Batman voice (I love it) at least he tries to pretend he's a separate person. *Here Clark, when you take off those glasses, you ain't half look like Superman*
I refuse to accept any Superman that isn't Dean Cain
Dean Meat*
NOW who's trolling?
everyone hates superman
and Zack Snyder playing Drowning Pool and shorting CGI all over the place won't change that.
Agreed on Total Recall, absolutely pointless.
Despite the fact the trailer looked quite action-packed...it just seemed boring, really, really boring.
Basically looks like Minority Report which had fecking Farrell in it as well and can he carry a film?
Also it's not on Mars.
Man of Steel = when will people realise DEAN CAIN is Superman?
Stop trolling. Only Christopher Reeve is Superman. Dean Cain is a model in a superman outfit.
Also, Minority Report is good, numbnuts.
I watched that new(ish) Superman film on the TV a while ago
I think it had Kevin Spacey in it. That's about all I remember. It was fucking shit.
It's absolute bollocks
It felt like I was being brainwashed by a cult
because I sat and watched that film for two hours and I don't remember a thing about it.
I’m fed up with superhero/comic book stuff being reimagined as completely serious, po-faced, gritty-real-life things.
A bit of drama and tension is fine, of course, but Man of Steel looks like Never Let Me Go, but they’ve got special powers, instead of all being clones for harvesting.
Total Recall looks to be made as if it’s some kind of BELIEVABLE shite, too. Why does every movie have to be BELIEVABLE these days? That’s not the point of them!!!! I want to see Arnie pull a comically huge tracking device out of his nose and see it all expand. And they’re not even going to Mars
But they’re keeping the woman with three tits, aren’t they, because Christ knows we all need SOMETHING to wank over idk.
Oh well, only have to wait five years and we'll get another round of reboots.
The 3 titted woman is in the new movie
but they had to keep her in as she's a major character in the Philip K Dick story 'We Can Remember It for You Wholesale'
she keeps her top on though
Doesn't look like she's got much of a role in this one either
At least in the '90s one she had a name - Mary - but in this one, she's just called 'The Seductive Woman (aka The Three-Breasted Woman)'.
I think she's probably really just in
so people can be all 'it's even got the three boobed woman in!'
I doubt much serious consideration of Dick's original will have been given from the looks of the trailer it's just another big special effects heavy sci-fi action mess that probably won't even be as interesting in it's treatment of identity as the Arnie film was.
I think that's why Avengers worked so well
it accepted that it was just a bit of fun
The main character didn't go to Mars in the short story the film is based on
No, get YOUR ass to Mars
See you at der party, poptimusgrime
*chuckle* Ha, I continuously use him as a human shield
