Fraser Nelson of the Spectator is highly critical of the fact that borrowing is spiralling upward and is now higher than at any time under 13 years of Labour goverment. Even on the Spectator podcasts there has been the argument that cutting alone has clearly not worked and that while it is not time for Plan B and to abandon the cuts Osborne needs a Plan A+ with some measures to encourage small and medium businesses to grow and employ people to get the economy paying something back into the treasury.
It's a no-brainer really.
they shouldn't be focusing on borrowing, they should be focusing on the Government's terrible policies re: employment and taxation.
but instead they're playing the "DEBT IS BAD MMMKAY" card that the Conservatives played at the last election.
The only thing that the Tories could campaign on at the last election was the DEBT IS BAD MMMKAY platform. If it can be got across to the general population that this government's policies have, in the short and long term, made the debt and deficit situation worse than they would have been under a Labour government (and I think it's pretty much accepted that this is now the case), then it narrows down the range of issues they can campaign on.
However, if Labour manage to do that, I guess you'll see this government, and the press, try and shift the focus onto a welfare-bashing, anti-immigration, anti-Europe agenda.
Nice trolling, bro.
