Alternative thread topic — Marriage: is it still a patriarchal institution?
Not going to name names of course. All very tempting but I think I'll go for number three.
Don't want to trust a decision like this to whim
I don't really understand it though so I'm just going to marry whichever one scores highest on AQOS this afternoon.
forfuture for when you go on family fortune together and win all the prizes (I'm assuming there are prizes).
the only reason I'd do it again is because at 24 my wedding list was a bit rubbish, think we mainly asked for money to get a TV.
I wouldn't propose though, that's a man's job...(sorry feminists)
Less needy = more empowered.
Is that like the female hivemind?
Would propose now but can't be arsed
you could always just send a PM.
I should warn you, though, that I'm already happily married.
Don't think I could propose
Not to anyone else at least.
you could pm, it would be easier
I just need to convene a board meeting and file through the necessary documentation before I can take a proper stance.
Anyone that thinks otherwise is, frankly, a try hard indie bellend.
February 29th is the only allowed exception to this rule.
because meo didn't propose this morning and he so desperately wants to get married.
haha lol! as if!
So marriage is still the site of the reproduction of patriarchal privilege?
Painting a portrait of a woman as a victim in a situation that she's not one is more oppressive and as a woman I think rather upsetting than the situation you suggest.
Men ought to propose to women. Except on February the 29th . Which actually thinking about is today. So, erm. carry on.
But the above is the summary of his post. Utterly inept trolling. Martbowski-level inept.
I bit the bait I bit the bait in my submissive state 3 tiiimmmmezzzz
Can I kick it? No I can't. Can I kick ittttt, no I can't.
...the system probably still works like this owing to female expectations, rather than anything forced by male dominance.
Trust me - most things relating to proposals/marriage are done to appease the woman, not the other way round...
THIS IS THE HYPERBOLE POLICE. DROP THE CHIP FROM YOUR SHOULDER AND PUT YOUR HANDS ABOVE YOUR HEAD. YOU ARE UNDER ARREST FOR BEING RICICULOUS.
it's really annoying and i'm not giving it the respect of looking it up.
It explains everything in a handy, convenient and concise form.
and he wants to bring her will under his submission, he approaches the woman's father and presents him with a mutually agreed upon payment for the exclusive access rights to her nether regions.
took the form of Shetland and the Orkneys.
I reckon with a bit of sweet talking I could wangle these: http://g.co/maps/2nvfy
Especially if you go there (which you should). They go a bit mental when they hear that. It's just Orkney.
because I think I'd be so good at it. (things you think you'd be good at)
I won't be, no. I forgot to pretend that I was going to to try and freak him out. Bummer.
I think I would do it in a very unromantic way but he definitely wouldn't be able to say no. (something to do with gaffer tape.)
Also, sean hughes proposed to me by writing on the inside of a book, 'Dear Lulu, will you marry me? But what about Trudy'. I don;t think he was very well.
I really want to propose to someone. I have the little pull ring from the Tuborg. I might ask the owner of Manure's.
HE IS THE OWNER OF HIS DAUGHTER. WHAT A FUCKING PATRIARCH!!
apparently in turkish, it's pronounced "mun-ure-ay". which makes it so much better.
poor 29th February'ers
have received no proposals either
...I have sympathy/agreement with the sentiment, but distance myself considerably from the way it is expressed.
...but still - your method of argument about ANYTHING (even when you're not satirising another poster) always flirts with the fringes of the extreme. It's just your style. Not for me but, hey, rich tapestry and all that...
Thanks for reminding me i'm from a broken home/Britain. No sensitivity.
AND NOW THE WHOLE INTERNET KNOWS.
You'll get married one day. And you'll LOVE IT.
It kind of takes the massive fear of rejection of us mens broad shoulders.
(you'd better be talking about me, btw.)
Can't you steal me one?
What about james? This is all terrible.
but I'm just concerned that if cat_race had a wife, I wouldn't get to see him as much.
I'll let the marriage go ahead.
can I still hug you?
how is your neck by the way? you're not going to die are you?
leg hurts more. bike needs new wheel, gonna got about £40 all in. going to invoice him for all he's worth!!!!
Whilst allying yourself to another great house in order to take on the evil LANNISTERS
My inbox is now full, I am taking no more proposals.
The lucky winner will be contacted soon.
To all those who have offered a proposal, thanks very much - if you're not lucky this time then who knows, I may be divorced by next leap year and you'll be welcome to try again!
Yours, The D-Man x
I always thought foley was DinoMAN
but does he have his own SHOW? No. No he does not.
The D-Man does.
lots of men making the same joke in this thread, without being called out on it
CONCLUSION: february 29th only happens once every four years so it's ok
POST SCRIPT: i wonder how that andrew 29th is getting on?
you just have to go along with it.
You're carrying flowers? `oh are those for me?`
You're washing your car? `hey you can do mine next!`
just lame cliched banter in which you HAVE to partake if you want to be a member of the human race.
i see now
who do you think we are? Hugh Grant?!
in fact i LOVE repetition.
you were all just making the same lameass joke but, considering it's a once in a four year opportunity, it's ok. on balance.
I do seem to remember that you did have lovely eyes though,
Its nice to see someone who obviously does not mind proposing to more than one of the 'strange (old) men of dis'
//In the British Isles, it is a tradition that women may propose marriage only on leap years. While it has been claimed that the tradition was initiated by Saint Patrick or Brigid of Kildare in 5th century Ireland, this is dubious, as the tradition has not been attested before the 19th century.//
Her reply: Hahaha.. Stop being a nightmare.
FROM YOUR MUM.
only it wasn't marriage she was proposing.
I thought you'd replied to Theo.
I've made a right mess of this.
no, I can't go there
If you're going to SICK BURN yourself I suggest you go elsewhere. This is no place for that kind of behaviour.
Yeesh, what a jerk.
It's ok I'm sure Theo or someone will delete it in a bit.
She wants to know if you'll be round for tea and whether you can pick up some lube on the way?
*have sex with
way to make a lady feel special
automated spam? HOTT!
ah, i see you have already covered this fairly comprehensively.
MUST BE A SIGN
(when i say you were in my dream, i mean i was reading a post by you on DiS in my dream. that's right: i don't just dream about DiSers, i literally dream about reading DiS)
I hope it was an entertaining post, at least.
