The best calibrating was always my Playstation's lightgun for playing Time Crisis 2.

when you have to wave it around in a figure of 8 motion.
When I was about twelve. It had "force feedback" which gave it oversteer and understeer, itself dependent on the driving conditions of the road, e.g ice or gravel.
Doesn't get any better than that.
Today:
pH meter 400 MHz NMR machine
I also set my watch to match the clock at the train station ths morning.
