lolololololol estate agents
Nothing. Apart from Weezer, but they don't count.
The best bit was about three years ago when they finally 'finished' Procter Street and put up a sign saying 'Procter Street: Midtown's most exciting new street!'
THIS IS WRONG ON ABOUT FOUR HUNDRED LEVELS.
FUCK OFF. YOU CUNTS.
The ultimate case of when ignorance most definitely was bliss.
Why do Estate Agents need to create this 'brand'. Surely the words IT'S IN ZONE 1 will get the £££ signs flashing?
If so - then call me Sir MotherFUCKin' Midtown because her ass is HAWT.
I mean cities like London are constantly evolving and changing.
It's the same sort of mentality that tries to "preserve" the English language.
Dave, Downtown Bradford
how many people in britain earn a living doing work like this? is this sort of work propping the country up? would it be so bad if they were all interned?
but if i heard someone use this earnestly i think i'd have a bit of a seizure. i'm struggling to imagine the sort of person who could do something like that and think of it as a valuable contribution to anything. apart from comedy or torture or whatever though, then it's fine.
1. There is a campaign in Windsor for the town to have its own postcode as opposed to addresses having a Slough postcode, as is now the case. The residents of Slough have fought back with a campaign to have Windsor rebranded as "Lower Slough".
2. Once I was looking around a flat to rent in Whalley Range (the less attractive of two neighbouring areas in Manchester, the other being Chorlton). One of the carrots the estate agent tried to persuade us with was that "its got that M21 postcode" (the Chorlton one). We left.
It's like Cambridge's main club has been known as Cindies since the sixties or something, even though its real name has been changed loads of times (its currently Ballare, I think).
Urban branding shithouses.
since everywhere here tends to be referred to by its nearest tube station.
MOORGATE NORTH EAST

(Easy walking distance of Hoxton)
*Easy walking distant of hollywood_freak
Its more of a warning to anyone with genitals that anything else
NoHo would be better for North Hoxton. Better, as in malaria is better than cancer, but still.
They're trying to rebrand part of Nottingham as 'Eastside'. Currently it's a patch of haunted factories and abandoned sofas.
and the rest of current England as "the Rind"
Greater Than London
They really should do a bit more with St Giles: That shithole east of Centre Point just constantly looks like no-one's ever given a fuck about it
I agree with you. But the people from – uunghh – InMidTown, they don't seem to give much of a fuck about it either. If the area needs a boost, that’s one thing, but is this company even investing in the area? It’s a company that doesn’t appear to actually DO anything, save annoying residents by putting up flags.
Bloomsbury especially is a name that’s freighted with a sense of history and culture. The idea that Bloomsbury, Holborn and St Giles can only get the attention they need if they’re given a new name is laughable. Especially this stupid, vacuous, meaningless name, which just screams Inferiority Complex. Can people only learn to love London if it pretends to be New York City?
They are/were* a Business Improvement District, which is an umbrella organisation representing local businesses and their interactions with local government. The general idea is to get businesses to take a greater role in and responsibility over the area in which they operate, and within largely commercial districts they do have some success. I know from experience that a lot of the shops/restaurants in Holborn in particular have taken this up with great gusto.
* This is assuming InMidtown is the same organisation as InHolborn (and before that The Holborn Business Partnership), who I used to deal with sometimes. If they're not, the name and function is remarkably similar...
According to this, they are the same people:
"Merchant City East"
More of a standing joke in reality, rather than a serious desriptor by anyone.
I did find a couple of 'serious' uses of it via a google search though.
The companies? One is "R & S Property Holdings Limited".
The other? "DementedDollzStripograms". :-D
