I am about to watch this. I predict it will suck.
how there is now a whole extra trilogy after day of the dead. also depressing how little interest i have in them :-(
zombie overkill is almost as bad as vampire overkill right now and romero can't not be partly blamed for that
Even if I watched a million terrible zombie films there's still no way I could feel as utterly repulsed by anything with vampires in as I do right now, and all thanks to that awful middle aged woman wank porn.
NOTLD sure, but the rest of his work? Meh, at best.
it's not all Monkey Shines and straight to video sequels
The Crazies is shit, Martin is largely forgettable, there has never been a good or even decent performance in any of his films and I find it hard to understand what's so great about his work.
i think the reason he stands out and has this reputation is that if you look at contemporary horror films, particular from the indie side of cinema Romero occupied his films tended to be the most ambitious, or the ones with the biggest ideas in them.
i know some of the social commentary may seem a bit obvious or trite looking back but at the time there weren't many rivals in the horror movies-about-ideas-stakes.
so he was doing the gore and the horror as well as anyone (barring the red-paint stage blood in martin), helping invent new ways of doing things, making films that had more substance than most of his peers and doing it all for a tiny budget.
there are a lot of people with Irish accents. bad Irish accents. one of them just shouted "come on out now or we'll blow your arrrrses away".
basically: Father Ted with zombies.
there's an Indie in it. he looks a bit like Michael Cera and constantly wears giant headphones around his neck. he also kills zombies pretty well for a skinny dweebo.
but I don't really have high hopes. I'm sure I will like it, but he hasn't really nailed a truly classic zombie film since Dawn, I hope he can better it one day... (doubt this will be it, will report back tomorrow)
:( Although after "Diary..." my expectations were fairly low.
