Requiem for Detroit? (BBC2 documentary, urban collapse-centric)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00rkm3y/Requiem_for_Detroit/
this was on BBC2 this saturday just gone.
i don't think its the most effective piece as such - i think it spends a bit too long on the history, and at the expense of some of the supposedly-exciting things that are happening now - but certainly worth an hour of your time if you're interested in these sorts of things. some of the places they visit are really fascinating, as is the fact that this is meant to be a first-world city. one of the people interviewed describes it as an "economic Katrina" and from the looks of it they're not far wrong.
can anyone recommend me any further watching / reading on detroit? my interest is piqued.
