has anyone ever been?
if it isn't exactly how The Hold Steady portray it i will be asking for my money back.
and he's a very pleasant man. that is all.
A lot of the buildings downtown are connected by hamster-run type walkways to keep the commuters out of the snow in Winter. And there's a sculpture park with a giant spoon in the middle. The Mall of America's close by, next to an enormous Ikea. That's all I can remember right now.
don't bother - girls will just go around calling you 'Kinda funny lookin'
this is awesome:
I've not been, but oceanRain has said he lived in MN for awhile.
i've just been listening to The Hold Steady far too much this week <3
o' mine has been twice. huge replacements fan as he is, the first time he ended up hanging out with tommy stinson's mother before being embraced by 'the scene' as it is as 'the english guy'. this lead to him being taken under the wing of lori from babes in toyland who introduced him to many a band, took him to clubs and bars and went with him to see westerberg and soul asylum play.
by the time he went back the second time, numerous scene-types knew who he was, he got another guided tour from lori, went to various parties, met various minne-celebs and didnt pay for a beer for the whole two weeks he was there.
tears well up in his eyes when he talks about it.
he also came THIS close to meeting paul westerberg but weirdly decided against it!
i'm thinking a trip would be wise.
I've only got Boys & Girls In America, where should I go next? Almost Killed Me, the other one, or wait for the new one to come out?
i have been slightly obsessed with it this week, and i now think it's as good as Boys & Girls. it's more narrative-drive, and i think "your little hoodrat friend" is my favourite Hold Steady song now.
i haven't heard the new one (resisted the temptation to download it) nor Almost Killed Me. although i think i'm going to buy that tomorrow <3
Almost Killed Me is a riff machine, Separation Sunday is a little deeper, but both are brilliant.
I love this band so much and my tee shirt arrived in the post today!
a DiS trip to the Party Pit. It'd better exist.
it's a quarry that hardcore bands used to play in :D
actually, I remember reading that now.
Have you seen this? http://www.morecowbell.net/theholdsteady/
reading threads properly is for losers
tripping is for teenagers
murder is for murderers
hard drugs are for bartenders!
that I got this obsessed with a band.
I think it may have been Urusei Yatsura way back when.
i saw them once. my friends and i were all fans of the anime they're named after and asked them if they were japanese :D
anyway. yeah. i assume you saw them at ATP? how great was that? gosh. also, how did i not see you that weekend?
and after i get sick i just get sad
'cause it burns being broke
and hurts to be heartbroken
and always being both must be a drag
<3 <3 <3
you know they're already taken
don't even speak to all those sequencers and beats boys
when they kiss they spit white noise
Big, big love for this band.
and ended up on Washington talking to the river
he said "i've surrounded myself with doctors and deep thinkers
but big heads and soft bodies make for lousy lovers"
two of my favourite songs from the last three years are about the same suicide. strange things eh?
coincidentally I'm pretty sure Craig Finn's an Okkervil fan, the last song on Stay Positive could (lyrically) have easily been on The Stage Names.
i might cave this weekend though.
