the cost of illegal drugs on society

pieces_of_reece [Edit] [Delete] 11:06, 25 February '08

a brief glance at the metro will tell you that illegal drugs cost Britain £110 billion pounds over the past 10 years yet in that time only £3 billion was spent on tackling addiction.

what do you think about these figures? are you happy about so much money being spent on the issue?

apparently £100 billion of the total was from crime related expense from class-A drugs. (though it doesn't say whether that is spending on the police to try to prevent drugs rings, or if it is from crimes/thefts/whatever undertaken by users desperate for money to feed addictions.)

so, do you think, given these figures that the government need a rethink on their policies?
