MP3 playyerers
i am getting myself a new one with my christmassy/birthday money, and i was gonna get an apple type product, but i found this thingy for £70. i used to have an old version of it, and it worked fine until i dropped it a lot and got it soaked a bit, so this: http://tinyurl.com/36nt3t or an apple thing?
word on the street is that
the Creative Zen thingys are the best.
my only experince with those was my bro got one 3 years ago,
an it went everykind of wrong, are they pretty reliable now?
that's the word on the street
I've got one of the smaller ones and have had it for almost exactly 2 years without any problems
I second this
My Creative Zen is about 2 1/2 years old and works fine, despite being in my clumsy company
I THIRD THIS
and second the treating it like crap. I think this one is about 3 years old now.
hmm i'll investigate
but that seems such a good deal...
It does like
Here's an exciting thread I was reading the other day with Archos praise in it

I'm tempted to throw my Zen in the bin actually because this one has five times the storage. Even though it wouldn't really make any difference to me. Damn you 'more storage' culture!
My Creative Zen died on me for good a few weeks ago...
After flirting with death 2-3x before that. I am now moving to the Apple camp.
excitingly I have been moved in to the apple camp
my nano is very nice and has quizzes on and everything. I've yet to put any music on but the excitement at the thought of it is keeping me going quite nicely.
previously I had an iRiver and it proceeded to delete albums at random and continually rearrange the order of tracks within albums. SO annoying!
I like
my new Sony one, and my old samsung one which got stolen.
Only 2GB (do you really need any more?) and is just like a little memory stick. It's all I need, no extra leads or software, just drag n drop for 40 quid
2gig is NOTHING.
i'm going for a 160gig next. and that wont be enough.
my
creative zen vision M is great. Battery isn't as fantastically amazing as my old zen touch though.
If you want to play videos, i'd go creative. Plays XviD without needing to convert, you can buy a cable to link it up to your tv through the scart connection, and other little cool things.
Can't say if all you want is something to play mp3's on though, Apple might be a better contender there, have heard much improved things about the batteries and reliability of the latest generation.
The new iPod nanos
use flash memory so SHOULD be more reliable. Whereas the older MP3 players use hard drives. Imagine lugging your computer around for months on end... it'd break. The idea with flash memory is that as it doesn't have fixed parts, it should last a lot longer. But the capacity is smaller, meaning you have to rotate your music more (something I wanted to do anyway). So far its been great - video quality is superb too, not that I'll use it much...
Has anyone bought an ipod from America?
A friend is going over there next week and I'm considering asking him to buy me one...
What do you need for it to work over here?
I did
It worked just fine. Exactly the same from what I can tell. Though its not that much cheaper if you end up getting taxed on it
interesting...
thanks.
If they brought it back with them though in a suitcase there would be no tax?
I literally have no idea what i am talking about.
if it's not declared, which is illegal
but...
There would be no customs tax
but you pay a sales tax in the US on top of the base rate, like our VAT. So you could claim that back if it's over a certain level I think, but you'd have to declare the item at customs, thus losing that edge.
Probably better to check the duty free price on the way out of Heathrow and buy it on the way back in if there's not much difference.
Thanks chaps
With that
£70 I'd be highly wary of sound quality from it, unless of course you aren't fussed and just use the standard headphones etc. My recommendation would be to go for Creative Zen Vision M, I own one and it's been fantastically reliable, very easy to use, has excellent sound quality and supports a huge range of files too.
i won't use their headphones, but i'm not a sound quality freak
i just want to be able to hear my music
I wouldn't worry about sound quality with Archos
they were the first after Apple to produce hard drive MP3 systems and they were good systems.
Not all
hard drive based players are rubbish. My dad's had his creative nomad jukebox for about 4 years without any problems with batteries, casing or harddrive. He's also just discovered that replacing the harddrive is as easy as popping on the case and putting a laptop one in, so he's just expanded massively.
me too
i don't really want an ipod, but 80GB for £140 - thelink do it for that - is pretty tempting.
get creative!
i fucked my ipod nano, and just bought a creative zen v plus thingy and it is by far the better option!
