Alert in Nunavut, Canada is the Northernmost permanent settlement in the world, located just over 500 miles from the North Pole. it apparently has a population of 5.

antartica, on the other had, has no permanent residents (although there are people there all year round), so the southernmost settlement will be somewhere in chile probably. which probably isn't as 'chile' as Alert. LOL!
