Mark Thomas on BBC London News last night
any capital dwellers see this last night? he was *magnificent*.
he was taking part in a protest in Parliament Square about the curtailing of the right to protest around the Houses of Parliament, and they were interviewing both him and some Tory member of the London Assembley.
the Tory was going on about how it was 'disgraceful' and how they were a collection of the 'mad, sad and bad' and how it wouldn't look good to tourists to have them there (he's been on before, talking about brian haw and said basically the same thing) and mark thomas just tore into him. he eventually told the tory that, by branding them all the 'mad, sad and bad' he was making a political protest and was thus breaking the law :D
i did an actuLOL.
that's good
but still can't cope thomas dropping the word 'comedy' from his BBC show he used to have on. - I'm being trivial here of course.
...
What was this Tory's point? That we shouldn't have protests anywhere tourists might see them and thus get a negative view of our country?
You know what other country practises that policy? China. Another one? Cuba. He should go live there and see how far being such a git gets him.
that was
basically his point.
apparently a function, vibrant democracy is not what tourists 'want to see' and damages London's status as a world city.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
