23rd Jan, yo!
So whacky, that Aphex Twin.
not that good though, just a collection of 1-5 second scratching sounds.
Well maybe this will be more substantial. Has the sound of something throwaway, but you never know...
there's a piece of barn dance music on this one.
for something a bit more experimental and I know im going to get it.
it's pretty much like some of the more acoustic pieces on drukqs.
It's an interesting listen, given how it was presumably put together, but little more.
But I find it a bit laborious after a while. By the second half it all begins to blend into one.
A lot punchier than I for some reason expected. Properly excellent stuff.
Particularly enjoying diskhat1.
whoever DJ Vadim was sampling for piano appegios in the late '90s and, well, Aphex Twin.
piano un1 arpej is my favourite, but diskhat1 is banging.
Especially the first and last tracks. The free remix of diskhat is even better.
sounds for the most part to be some bordering on unlistenable shite, piano un10 aside I can't get into it
It can't be recorded live, as there's backwards bits on the first track. But I kind of assumed that was the whole point of it...?
I was reading on RYM that apparently switching the playback to 45 rpm gives a rather different experience. I like the EP otherwise, but changing it via audacity is a bit more interesting.
it does say 33 or 45 rpm.
but I'm partly dismissing it on the basis that the reviewer didn't seem to know much about Aphex Twin (and made a stupid and untrue point about how only white producers make hip-hop instrumentals)...
Ain't listened to it, beyond a track on the Soundcloud -- which I thought kind of sounded like "'Syro' unplugged".
I hate to be that guy that dismisses a review because after all it is all subjective etc and so on but I have to say that review seemed pretty bizarre. I simply couldn't understand the points he was making about hip-hop. It just seemed to come down to him saying he likes hip-hop and not whatever it is you'd call Aphex Twin but he was somehow trying to justify this in a way that I didn't get.
Personally I'm really enjoying it, but then I really like Syro too.
This album is pretty dull
I think it suffers from a lack of variety, which was also my main gripe with Syro. I doubt these tunes would have sat all that well alongside the tunes on Syro, but there are plenty of similar pieces of music on Drukqs, which is probably my favourite Aphex album. so idk, as individual pieces, some of this ep is pretty cool, but yeah, as a 28 minute listen it doesn't really go anywhere.
too many deep sounds
But it looks like Aphex has been uploading SAW1-era demos on soundcloud. 27 joyous nuggets so far....
there's not much noticeable difference in quality between this and either the Caustic Window album or even 26 Mixes for Cash. i mean this might as well be SAW3 perhaps with a bit of trimming.
Maybe something along the lines of Chosen Lords.
people are claiming that there are 400 tracks to come from this. Crazy shit
beautiful beautiful madness.
