of course not.
nobody wants a 24-track, 80+ minute Foxygen album.
I'll bet it will be one of those "No, you guys just don't *get* it" cult albums for like another year before those people realise they've been had and Foxygen doesn't have shit worth listening to.
It would make a good EP.
They looked pretty good live on that Pitchfork Paris stream
and they were amazing in Brighton the other night - although a different vibe to the record. Very loud, tight trousers, eyeliner, sweaty backing singers.
its a complete mess. i thought the two singles they released before the album came out were really good but the album is a complete let down. 70% of the album is just demos or half finished songs. they should have spent more time on it, released it next year and just made it 12 tracks.
the whole thing sounded like a band trying to impress the idea that it is a "difficult album": overstuffed double album? check. undercooked songs? check. multi-part suite? check.
it's interesting as a metajoke, but it's not at all interesting to listen to, nor does Foxygen have a catalogue that really gives them the leeway to make that kind of joke.
having never heard Foxygen before. conclusion: some good songs, generally like the overblown double album with loads of half-formed ideas. kept thinking of Todd Rundgren, but it's obviously nowhere near as good as Todd Rundgren, nor really that comparable.
