in the same way Arcade Fire are now. If their lyrics weren't so utterly shit.
The last album was really disappointing
just that Interpol turned really rubbish musically
because it is
but it's got their best singles on it.
Their albums have gotten worse
Also their lyrics can be really shudder worthy
'You make me wanna pick up a guitar/And celebrate the myriad ways that I love you' Ew
But Turn on the Bright Lights will always remain a really important album for me
on Leif Erikson with the emphasis on "icebox" makes me cringe. An otherwise great song though.
didn't hurt Arcade Fire though so you're probably right.
Neon Bible and Suburbs, but yeah the albums as a whole certainly weren't anywhere near as strong as Funeral. They'll have a pretty impressive greatest hits though won't they.
Funeral is one of the greatest debut albums ever so they're unlikely to ever top it or even come close to it anyway
To me they veer between lazy and quite inspired, which I'll take over consistently bland anyday, and I like his way with a non-sequitur.
especially at festivals. if you hadn't heard either of their albums before seeing them around funeral/TOTBL, you'd be more likely to go and check out arcade fire on the strength of their live performance than interpol i reckon.
saw them twice on the OLTA tour at festivals, right at the start at Reading and right at the end at Latitude. they looked piss bored both times.
It's bypassed me if so. They seem to have the same sort of following they did in 2007 sort of time, to me.
can't think of many other contemporary 'rock' bands who could do that, arctic monkeys probably
They don't seem to have any kind of presence in mainstream media.
Plus they're fucking dreadful, but that's another issue.
they're a pretty awesome live band, which is probably what enables them to sell huge amounts of tickets while not being played on radio 1 or anything
good song this *humming along*
hang on what was that *puts ear next to radio*
WE SPIES OH YEAH WE SLOW HANDS WE P
we spies oh yeah we slow hands what does that mean?!!? GET IT OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111111
That in my head are massive and it always surprises me when people are unaware of them
There was a real feeling around them that made it feel they were HUUUUGE at the time
is kind of a one trick pony though, im pretty sure it would be near impossible to top TOTBL but they have come close.
It's a bit like QOTSA (They will always sound like QOTSA no matter what), I mean they wont ever top Rated-R but they came close with SFTD.
don't forget their utterly shit music
Whatshisname is a MONSTROUS drummer.
for them to be anything other than mediocre.
there's? horrific. i must have been writing something else and changed half way
I saw them on the tour for their last record, and the songs sounded really good live, even though they sucked a ton.
The classic material was great, but it was too thinly spread out and overall I thought it was pretty disappointing. Would go see a TOBL show.
No idea what the new stuff sounds like.
Diminishing returns ever since. And yet bafflingly, Arcade Fire are now massive despite being one of the worst bands in the entire world.
little competition around- you mean?!
Both are easily better than the first one. But yeah, the last one was pretty bad.
but the first one is easily one of the greatest records of the 00's
about this ham.
Like they supposed to be, please
there is absolutely no point in Interpol existing anymore
