'Come to a random army base in Iceland, for a festival with no line up, in two and a half months' time!'
i don't trust ATP at all, but this could be wonderful if done properly. conversely, its not in reykjavik and its hard to get to and from the city outside of major flight times.
is the main airport in Reykjavik though isn't it?
public transport is very sparse. maybe they'll run shuttle buses idk.
The timing clashes with loads of stuff and Airwaves is (apparently) a brilliantly run festival anyway.
Perhaps Barry fancied a holiday over there.
but I don't see why they'd announce the festival without any acts whatsoever never mind trying to sell early bird tickets.
airwaves works because its in the city.
Probably not that expensive to do considering what happened to the Icelandic economy.
It'll be fine though as they'll just shift it to Camber Sands.
the prices seem reasonable for this to say its in iceland, neither under/overpriced.
Bankrupt happy festival organiser organises festival in recently bankrupt country. What could go wrong?
to boost its summer tourism, so maybe it's a tie-in with that somehow.
Curated by Shellac
Tickets going fast.
Lots of women-hating straight-edgers there...
but JFC, didn't they learn anything from their Australian and US cock ups?
what happened with the Aussie one? US was just moved right?
it definitely sold out way before the event - i know someone who had to pay over the odds for tickets. biiig venue too.
the recent one was a success, but the first one they did was a financial disaster.
was a big stinker for them, tried to go too big too early. too many events all around that detracted from the main event
the recent I'll Be Your Mirror weekend in Melbourne with MBV, Godspeed, the Drones etc sold out. But then there was a bit of a stink because ATP said MBV was an exclusive, but they weren't
recently announced a Release the Bats show with the Breeders for later in the year, ticket sales not going very well I believe
I think they'll bank on lots of English people going there. I reckon it'll be excellent. Combining a holiday in Iceland with a couple of days at ATP would be amazing.
Only downside - they have expensive booze there don't they?
I mean, it may just be that it's a small venue and their overheads won't be especially high, but it's the month after next and most people are going to have planned their summer festivals already
Hadn't noticed the date. Blimey.
Topic reminds me of a conversation I overheard between staff in Wood Green Sainsburys.
"You're leaving then?"
"Yep. I'm out of here"
"Where you going?"
"Yeah, the one in Palmers Green"
then there's nothing that outlandish about the booze prices in Iceland.
last monday morning...just before 12?
You just kind of feel a bit sorry for them now.
YYYs London exclusive for example, the gigs at that pub in Bethnal Green.
This juts seems barmy
Plus tying in with Songkick Detour to minimise their risk.
Still a bankrupt country though.
Roll on Atp greece/cyprus.
Might turn out to be a decent consolation prize for anyone who didn't manage to get tickets though.
let Múm play. And Bennet.
if it turns out the line-up is half-decent and the location is as cool as it sounds this could be an unexpected winner
Add £180+ per person for return flights. If you book budget, now. Try that again in 2 weeks, see how the prices are then...
Pfft. There is about a 10% chance that this could be absolutely awesome though (if maybe not cheap). I do fancy a holiday in Iceland though...
I'm just saying this could sweeten the deal.
Could be a problem too.
- A festival ticket including apartment accommodation. These are a limited amount of festival tickets that include two nights accommodation in private apartments at the Bed And Breakfast Keflavík, a very short walk from the event. -
So if you don't get one of those, you stay...where? Reykavik? Get a cab to and from the site each day?
- The festival has become more successful with every passing year -
Initially I try and give ATP the benefit of the doubt but as you say- that accommodation thing is a bit weird
but its an added £25-£30 i guess
Went to iceland before Christmas.truly amazing place,so beautiful and the people are lovely.was thinking of going back this year.we stayed here-http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g189970-d658122-Reviews-Apartment_K-Reykjavik_Capital_Region.html
It was like staying in an ikea showroom but lovely all the same.
Was thinking of going back this year.defo will now
That will be really weird.
Gets slightly dusky between about 2.00 and 3.00am and that's it, if I recall.
that's a little on the short side
Am so going...http://www.atpfestival.com/newsview/1304152030.php
Seems a bit vague about what it means by Bad Seeds 'headlining' - one headliner for a two day feat seems a bit light! Still, if they can shift the tickets in two months more power to them.
Bit of a rip if you ask me. Some good stuff on there no doubt, but for the price and the added flights and accommodation it seems like it won't attract many visitors.
I'm sure the locals will have a blast, not sure if the international crowd will like departing £500+ for it though.
Gotta say, i've not been to an ATP since the Groening one, can't say i'll be rushing to them again.
that ATP was so good as well :(
dont really see the badge of pride in them not being. just a bit weird innit
