it's gonna be really good, right?
Stay Useless is just perfect <3
but some good songs nonetheless, this album is muuuuch better. guitars and drums sound raw, it's a great rock album.
so I was mega surprised by how much I love the two tracks they put out before this one. Really looking forward to hearing the whole thing!
the rest of it is super
but the 9-minute song totally blew me away.
not so sure on the rawer stuff, his voice doesn't really work for it. Pretty sure it'll grow on me though.
Also, Fall In = probable song of the year
but it works
that's really pretty good. Not earth shattering, but good (read: nowhere near the early stuff The Wrens did, eh). If there was justice in the world, they'd see success like Green Day never really deserved.
given it was posted on this website: http://drownedinsound.com/news/4144342-listen--stream-new-cloud-nothings-album-in-full
so yeah, this record is pure good
The first one just got a bit grating. Too much whiny singing. Having said that Heartbeats was a strong contender for my single of the year.
No Future/No Past is a great tune. Also, I wonder how much impact Steve Albini actually had. I know he's meant to have played fb games the whole time, but this album is so much better ... idk
Thought it was unusual that the 8-minute Wasted Days was track two, you'd normally see a longer track toward the end of the album - but it works.
It doesn't have as many hooks as the first album but I'd say it was at least as good, if not better.
as I was writing my review of it, and it's just fucking brilliant isn't it? The first few listens I couldn't/didn't want to get past Wasted Days but the rest of the album is just as good.
Review is here if anyone is innerested; http://www.goldflakepaint.co.uk/?p=6126
Not many albums have me going to youtube to find the album tracks (this was pre-stream) but it is just so good. It's not, say, a ground breaking album but for its genre it's top class all the way through and I doubt I'll find many albums that I'll enjoy more released this year. So in a nutshell, I like it. Wasted Days is the standout (and probably should have been the closing track in my opinion).
...on a pitchfork link earlier this week. Really liked them.
Weirdly reminded me superficially of The Wrens.
... woah, I can only echo what was said above.
I know I will listen to this a lot in the coming months.
It's good. But they're basically just covering New Plastic Ideas era Unwound, right?
Unwound and New Plastic Ideas (really liking it btw). I can see where the comparisons come from. But would it not be like comparing A Place to Bury Strangers to My Bloody Valentine?
They do wear their influences on their sleeves, but I think they're bringing something original, only particular to them.
but it isn't a patch on New Plastic Ideas.
Sounds quite good, although the people in the Recommended Albums Of 2012 thread who compared it to Slint and Shellac are morons and I've ended up feeling a bit disappointed.
What do I win?
they are like Slint & Shellac, no foolin'
and then the guitar freakout and then just that over and over and aaaargh
like every time I listen to it and it gets to the proper freak-out stage, I'm shocked at how freaked out it actually all is.
(this makes sense to me^)
or many, many years.
This is good news. Thanks, DiS
i kind of love that it sounds like several of my favourite pop punk melody writers got hammered and slurred out some tracks.
and life exploded. Those two bands + Devotchka is going to = a fucking excellent night.
A logical and really satisfying progression from the last album. Just hope they don't continue to get heavier at the expense of hooks & occasional bounciness.
but...does anyone feel like you can hear Albini more than anything else on this record? I don't mean that in a bad way. But you can hear his room, you can hear him possibly more than even the band when they start getting loud. He's just sort of there throughout. It's incredible that a producer has gotten to that level, really.
he is superb.
it massively benefits from his 'style' of recording
'Stay Useless' sound like The Replacements.
not so much. i wouldn't say. i see what you mean about that one, but it's pretty much the most POP track on it. the pitchfork review i think gets it pretty spot on, comparing it to classic dischord/deep elm style emo.
there are two other tracks they put out for free, they're all linked from the pitchfork review, check those out as well, they give a pretty good indication of the rest of the LP
but I would maintain there’s a high-octane Replacements sensibility to most of the record.
Listened to it three times in a row. Probably one of the best non-metal rock albums I've heard in the past few years. That last track, holy shit. This is definitely a type-lyrics-in-all-caps record.
I MISS YOU CUZ I LIKE DAMAGE
I NEED SOMETHING I CAN HURT
it made me tingle when i first heard it.
ive not heard them before but the two other albums are going on heavy rotation today.
i dont think ive been this up to speed with album releases in years
so I would guess they'll be announced in the next week or so
The first four songs are all incredible. Can't wait for UK dates, never saw them last time round.
Because it does sound like Trail of Dead back when they were good. i.e. Madonna album.
These were my exact thoughts
In my review of it anyway. It's all over it.
