Tips for 2011
Hi All,
I realise this may seem somewhat pre-emptive but this sort of thread appears about this time every year, so I thought I'd get in early. Especially as I'm putting together a 11 acts for 2011 playlist for Monday on the site and I have a couple of slots still undecided.
Who are you excited about, who might release a debut album (or single) in 2011?
I've booked some of the acts I'm excited about for our upcoming shows: http://drownedinsound.com/news/4141025-dis-is-10--no-age-blood-red-shoes-more-to-help-dis-celebrate-in-london-manchester-and-sheffield

Heard a song of theirs only yesterday at Stereogum...
Looking forward to the record!
Spectrals
but also Sex Beet majorly
and King Charles
Spectrals
Frontiers
Eagulls
Banjo Or Freakout
The Band In Heaven
The Blanche Hudson Weekend
Ringo Deathstarr
i was about to say spectrals
All the big talk is about Morning Parade
aka Delphic Mk. 2
www.myspace.com/morningparade
I saw these at Great Escape maybe?
That's about how memorable they were I guess!
They've got a big record deal already, PR, next 18 months mapped out for them
Christ alive, they are bland bland bland bland bland
Means nothing as far as I'm concerned
File under Everything Everything et al et al
Dry the river
The Neat
lanterns on the lake
Spectrals
Mazes
lots of lo-fi bands that forget to write proper songs
I'm still eagerly awaiting the first single from meths' band
"If Only They Had Teeth" - the new single from meths, featuring the b-side
"Where Have You, Grit Bin?"
Well clearly not all going to get massive, but they make good music so...
Still Corners
I Break Horses
Stricken City
Lanterns on the Lake
Ramona
ROMANCE
Dream Affair
2:54
Glasser
Let's Buy Happiness
Cults
No Joy
Already established to get bigger:
The Joy Formidable
Esben & the witch
Zola Jesus - surely?!
Warpaint
ROMANCE are awful
It's be boring it we liked the same stuff though hey...
I forgot Tennis, Veronica Falls and Summer Camp.
If yuck follow yu(c)k EP then it'll be magical, if it's a bit like the set in support of Pains at Heaven, it'll be "yuck".
also liking
Gold Zebra
piresian beach
Escapitsts - in a fanfarlo sort of mold.
what does "It's be boring it we liked the same stuff though hey" mean ?
I think it means "It'd be boring if we all liked the same stuff,
hey?"
they just got signed to Fiction a week or two back
so by the looks of things they'll be fucking huge.
Somebody give this guy a hug
Difference this year being that they've signed to Atlantic...
Extra cash-push and exposure camouflages lack of tunes?
Saw them support The Howling Bells last year
And both were utterly shit. Though they did manage to be slightly better than the Howling Bells. First on were Chew Lips though, who were actually pretty damn good that night. They've definitely gotten more mainstream in sound recently and lost some appeal but back then, before they had done an album, they seemed quite quirky and charming.
Chew Lips are awesome live
just a shame the album was so over-produced
I saw Stricken City a few years back
in the Captain's Rest in Glasgow, although I was only there to see Findo Gask and Ming Ming & The Ching Chings. Stricken City were by a long long way the worst band of the night, dull posturing.
Stricken City!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATMwzAseujM - I still think this is ace.
Or I just well fancy the singer in that video; it's hard to tell sometimes.
Other big names off the top of my head, Nicki Minaj, Clare McGuire, Labrinth and Willow Smith?
As for underground/ indie stuff I'm not sure. Full length albums from Summer Camp, Yuck, Veronica Falls should be good and I have a lot of hope for Katy B too. She's great.
On a wider scale I think the internet makes things harder to predict in advance. Who predicted big things for Best Coast, Warpaint, Zola Jesus, Toro Y Moi or Avi Buffalo this year? Things just emerge naturally it seems. Which is nice.
since most of those bands live in LA
i can tell you that people were all over those bands FOR EVER. war paint the most though, they've taken forever to breakout.
yeah, I mean more like there is a pool of great bands and it's hard to say which ones will
go on to pierce a wider conscious as it seems like a fairly random process.
Warpaint have been around since about 2004 right?
yaaa
i can't remember how long they've been around just that i saw their name on like every bill forever and now their taking off. you're right, though about the randomness because then there is Avi who did a bunch of shows and then did a residency and BAM! signed by sub pop and take off immediately
most people predicted Best Coast
but Avi and Warpaint were surprises
I'm not sure if Chickenhawk and Castrovalva have dropped their debuts yet
But when they do, they'll be sweet.
Also, those two Holy Roar EPs I reviewed were very promising by We die smiling and Run, WALK! Both of those could be great...
Chickenhawk debut came out 2 years ago I think.
Self-titled effort; absolutely brutal. Get it.
Ah ok, ignore them then Sean
Well... don't, but do.
I shall go investigate it soon. If it's anything near as good as BATS, I'll be made up. Seriously, that record slays. If I redid my 2009 'Best of' list, it'd go top 3 easily.
Paris Suit Yourself
First ever guitar band signed to Ninja Tune or something.
www.myspace.com/parissuityourself
yeah, i'm really liking the single they sent me!
^5
Motoro Faam
...
Zun Zun Egui
if they get a full length debut out next year the underground is theirs pretty much.
I also think on a more established tip
that next year could be a very big year indeed for Torche. Their last album was one of the most accessible heavy things around, they could be commanding very big audiences if they can build on that.
Oh and with electronic stuff
everyone is going crazy for chicago footwork, the Planet Mu releases are going to send it stratospheric. I'm yet to be truly convinced, but maybe ask one of the more knowledgeable boarders like brightonb or jimi or rory dis-integration. Noel Gardner's review of the DJ Nate release was really good as well.
Thats my automatic reply
to pretty much all of these threads. They are excellent! New EP supposed to out soon too. Not sure how much of a 'breakthrough' act they'll be, but they deserve it.
Thats to Zun Zun Egui by the way
Another vote for Zun Zun Egui.
The Rakes
just got the new Let's Buy Happiness video through
http://www.vimeo.com/15004312 (rather impressively directed by the lead singer)
King Charles...
Just saw them at Bestival having never heard of them, they were one of the best bands I saw. The frontman is a genius on guitar, he was using an iphone for a slide solo.
Agree with all the King Charles shouts
Amazing, charismatic guitarist, with the songs to boot.
Also...
Eagulls,
Sam Airey,
Paul Thomas Saunders,
Over The Wall
Are Kurran and the Wolfnotes going to release an album?
The Cold In Berlin album will be fine,
although I don't think they are affiliated with the right people to get a boost through the increasingly homgenous music blog fraternity.
I'd second the recommendations for Yuck and Esben etc.
More internationally, I can see more love for Von Haze, Rich Aucoin, maybe The Pack A.D. plus Frenchies Team Ghost and Lys.
Trophy Wife - www.myspace.com/atrophywife
And also Ute - www.myspace.com/utetheband
Ute are great saw them touring with Cats x 3

good list
listening to Under Alien Skies now and quite liking 'em. Got some blog love http://hypem.com/#/search/Under%20Alien%20Skies/1/

TAPE
caught TAPE last year, still unsigned but amazing. here's a brief description:
TAPE formed in 2008 when vocalist/keyboardist Toby Rothwell and drummer Andy Gill met over Music Technology lectures at Lancaster University. After one or two tweaks to the line-up, they settled with Sean Millar on guitar and fan-turned-bandmate Charlotte Watts on bass, the latter learning the entire set in one day following the unexpected loss of her predecessor!
A very contemporary band, they draw influence from the likes of TV on the Radio, Secret Machines and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but also citing inspiration as far flung as Nine Inch Nails, Boards Of Canada and My Bloody Valentine, perhaps just about audible with obvious attention paid to the detailed textures.
The future is bright for TAPE. Having graduated from university, they embark upon a joint migration to London, where the streets are paved with gold and, more importantly, record labels!
Remember the EP's a free download from the link on the myspace: www.myspace.com/tapeuk
Bitbasic
Reviewed his EP for DiS. Really good IDM encompassing breakbeat, dubstep and hip hop. has released a few albums on internet label under creative common licence (ie sharing music for free) and yet to be signed to real record contract. headlined a festival in germany celebrating creative common stuff and reckon big things are to come!
EP is Bitbasic-Farwah
also forgot to mention, his ep 'Farwah' was voted electro release of the month for january by Mixmag
Terrorvision
TALL SHIPS
Saw them as support
for Tubelord the other day and they were a complete unknown. Pretty bloody brilliant
would you
seriously stop spamming in EVERY POST you make?
to clarify
the gig at the Bull & Gate is now on the 29TH and not the 30TH!!! It was originally the 30th and I put the wrong date on the news story like an utter, utter idiot.
Who's coming on the 29th? I think even Jimi would like the openers.
Twinz
I like both Twin Shadow (http://www.myspace.com/thetwinshadow)and Twin Sister (http://www.myspace.com/thetwinshadow).
An album by the latter would be most welcome, although I interviewed them a while back and they said not to expect anything soon as they work at a Kevin Shieldsian pace.
OOps
Here's the Twin Sister link: http://www.myspace.com/twinsisterband
And more music by them here: http://twinsistermusic.com/
I also like the band Sisters a lot, sort of Dinosaur Jr-esque noise with a pop edge. They have an album out soon.
http://www.myspace.com/sisterssound
So there you go, my recommendations: Twin Shadow, Twin Sister, and Sisters. Because it's good to keep things themed.
Salem
the forthcoming album is definitely making some (err) noise
James Blake
debut album should be out next year and should be amazing if the eps are owt to go by...
^
he's a bit good, he should pick up a few more fans with the next EP onwards.
Hopefuly Mount Kimbie will keep rolling too, still early days for them too.
indeed
Ms Roby doesn't listen to anything other than James Blake (I think she just writes the singles column based purely on her favourite press releases whilst listening to him)
Kimbie's rise will continue, for sure. Be curious if there's a second wind in Ikonika's sails too.
thats a good way fo doing reviews
Ikonika just started a label called Hum & Buzz the first release is out now, its sounding good. She always has something on the way so hopefuly the people that dug the album will keep grabbing her singles shes had a few out since the album already: http://boomkat.com/downloads/334456-ikonika-optimum-aqueous-cream-ampersand / http://boomkat.com/downloads/329982-ikonika-dckhdbtch
Darkstar will prob gain a lot of fans outside of the scene with their forthcoming album on Hyperdub too, I dont think ist far away and its full of acctual songs with a singer and everything. People like that kind of thing I hear.
Under Alien Skies are very special
His Clancyness/A Classic Education will release a full length and it'll probably do well.
Warpaint / Summer Camp / Still Corners / Twin Shadow / Houses / Sleep Over / Keepaway / Young Montana / Soars / We Are Trees
Out of all the above I think We Are Trees' bandcamp EP is the best thing I've heard in a long time. Beautifully layered, Grizzly Bear-esque, wonderful: http://wearetrees.bandcamp.com/
Hired Muscle
new album is out this year and they look like they might have some very interesting touring plans for next year.
House of John Player, is setting out on an 11 week tour with Action Beat and has some official releases due out this year.
obligatory myspace links
www.myspace.com/houseofjohnplayer
www.myspace.com/hiredmusclemen
hey Sean, what about these guys
http://www.myspace.com/egyptianhiphop
think they got a chance?
didnt know they were still going!
i know one of the guys in the band, well he was in the band
They're not
They broke up two years ago.
everyone except the singer in the latter line up of the band are now Gyratory System
who are pretty cool.
But yeah they broke up ages ago.
OPM
anyone who sounds like mumford & shits
Burning Beard are coming soon.
Truth.
Late of the Pier to go MASSIVE
Like, Klaxons-first-album big with their second.
I'm duty bound to say Esben and the Witch. But to be fair their success (should it come) is nothing to do with me, more their superb songs (the album is sounding superb - of course I would say that) and the Matador weight behind them. I think their US dates this month will help set up 2011 nicely.
If the wheels don't come completely off the Warpaint campaign then they'll do well. Heard some worrying things regarding the album... but nothing that will matter if it's ultimately as good as it could/should be.
SOUNDGARDEN. They'll have a good 2011.
Errrrrm... I guess It's Tropical, Egyptian Hip Hop, worriedaboutsatan, Gallops, Zola Jesus (with an album proper), Rustie, Pariah, Sound of Arrows, Rumer, those girls signed to major labels that are all like Stevie Nicks, Kisses... I'd like Kisses to be bigger, thanks. Domestic ROCK wise, Tropics could have a good year. Likewise Holy State. Ermm...
need to give that Kisses lp another listen then, sounded utter gash when i played it the first time but then the press release read like Postal Service + Cut Copy = SEANIC WIN!
nice to see Gallops getting some props
haven't heard their EP yet but I know one of them fairly well, they're all decent lads.
nice to see lots of love for Still Corners
def one of my favourite local bands in ages
Surf / Garage / Tropical
Hype Williams
Surprised they haven't been mentioned already:-
http://www.myspace.com/hypheewilliams
They've just got a new 7" out as well:-
http://www.secondlayer.co.uk/index/p8742.htm
Also:-
Games
No Joy
Salem
oOoOO
Zola Jesus
Fad TMB
Gucci Mane
GR†LLGR†LL
plus more juke/footwurk on Planet Mu - DJ Roc, DJ Rashad and rumor has it that R P Boo's tracks will get a proper release on the label. Really hope this takes off in the UK.
nearly forgot....
Stalker - has an EP coming out on Tri Angle in early 2011. I've been obsessing over this project ever since I heard the Lindsay Lohan remix on the Tri Angle download compilation.
Samples here:-

Dom - Living in America (from Sun Bronzed Greek Gods)
is a spectacular single. Actually, I dunno if it's a single or even when it came out. I don't know anything about Dom. I just know I like this song! ****1/2
(My recollection of this album is that it doesn't live up to the this track, though.)
yeah it's in my top 5 of the year
The album is a good 7.5/8 but the single is a 9.
Yeah, the single is great
Haven't listened to the album, but the other tracks from their myspace when I first listened didn't really do much for me.
Trim
haha
To many people...
James Blake, Untold, Ramadanman, LV, LHF, Roof Light, Hot City, CRST, Blawan, Golau Glou, Worriedaboutsatan, Her Name Is Cala, Blue Daisy, Slugabed, Joker, Rustie, Doc Daneeka, Breach, T.Williams, DOK, Terror Danjah, Shortstuff, Brackles, Silkie, Trim, Dot Rotten, Bowly, Becoming Real, Fantastic Mr Fox, Offshore, Royal T, P Money, Swindle, Forest Sword, Wiley, Zomby, Non Person, Maxmillion Dunbar, Bok Bok, L-Vis, Girl Unit, Addison Groove, Pangaea, D Double E, SRC, Braiden, Ben UFO, Petchy, Oneman, Funkenhaven, Mista Men, Dj Rashad, DJ Nate, DJ Roc, DJ Spinn, RP Boo, Geiom, Heytal, George Fitzgerald, Joy Orbison, Kuoyah, Rylski, Julio Bashmore, Deadboy, Arkist, Simon/off, DJG, Gemmy, Guido, October, Instra:mental, ASC, Vaccine, Sepalcure, V.I.V.E.K...
One of that lot maybe.
Morning Parade - band for 2011
These guys are from my home town, so ive followed them for years in one guise or another - really talented guys - great band - gona be huge
Zola Jesus
Forest Swords
James Blake
Esben & The Witch
Joker
I'm talking about wider acclaim though
none of them have proper albums / have toured much or anything. Plus Joker just signed that deal with Universal (?) which will be interesting.
I'd also say
Japanese Voyeurs, who are going to be touring with Fucked Up and Against Me! as well as releasing a new album next year.
Oh my god
I saw Japanese Voyeurs supporting Johnny Foreigner in Manchester. They were absolutely atrocious.
I think the 'tips' thing has probably peaked a little
as someone mentioned before, a lot of the really great stuff that came up this year seemed to come fairly organically, or out of nowhere.
the james cleaver quintet
This is going to sound bizarre, but I'm excited for two things:
1) Iron & Wine's new record, Kiss Each Other Clean, and
2) seeing Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Live and in person. SWOON.
Civil Civic
^ this. Again.
x 1000
.
chickenhawk, hopefully. Lafaro too.
...
Beady Eye
Not an unknown quantity
But i'll be surprised if Islet aren't significantly bigger next year, they are bursting with too many eclectic ideas to not be. I hope not too big though.
er, why has no-one tipped Blondes? Possibly the most exciting music being made at the moment (and I think both Cronin and Jimi may agree with me on this)
http://www.myspace.com/blondeblondeblondes
http://open.spotify.com/album/7v19RUyMR3I1J2wOFsXZ0p

Maybe
Dream Cop - http://www.myspace.com/onabuemoon
The First Loves - http://www.myspace.com/thefirstloves
Truman Peyote - http://www.myspace.com/trumanpeyotemusic
and certainly Guards - http://guards.bandcamp.com/
Truman Peyote is a great band name!
and...
forgot to mention:D/R/U/G/S, always come back to them but not sure if i'm convinced, yet.
http://www.myspace.com/drugsdogoodthings
cough cough!
Egyptian Hip Hop..
i hate most things but i love
BEAR MASK http://tumblr.com/xqdj3sock
Saw them in Leeds a few months ago. Just got their new demos. Really like their distant alien vibe that sort of songs like Cut Copy soaked in Roxy Music's eccentricity.
I reckon
Salem, James Blake, Joker, Gemmy, Zun Zun Egui, OLO Worms
Will
Wu Lyf be big? I doubt it, not sure if they want to be? I've seen them live a few times though and do rate them.Views?
they seemed to appear and disappear. are they even still going? [safety wink]
Apparently in Portugal with crazy producer making album? No idea if this is true!
LOL
for a band who 'don't want to be big' you're certainly using those fake accounts wisely
Hello dogbag, I've got nothing to do with them apart from enjoying the music, it seems that's not allowed these says without there being some sort of ulterior motive. It's people like you who prevent me from joining in more with forums.Idiot.
I thought Arthur Scargill had left the union
Awww come on,
it was quite innocent.
Are all the band so angry?
These - and only these - then all music will stop
Bloodgroup
Mother Mother
Islet
Yunioshi
LOTP
Neon Indian
Anna Calvi
i hioe tis thread hasn't died a death as i think
Gauntlet Hair might get some love in 2011..
Deer Park
Are a great band, I think they already have an album out but dont seem to get much publicity, even on specialist blogs. I think they been supporting Eliott Brood and a few more bands along those lines in London.
Penguins Kill Polar Bears
Penguins Kill Polar Bears play their hope-drenched post-rock to anyone who cares to listen. The band were born from a mutual love of good music, including bands such as Aereogramme, Silverchair, Appleseed Cast and The Smashing Pumpkins.
Their sound is that of a band as unafraid of pop as they are grunge and heavy rock – catchy but completely uncompromising in their crescendos and massive drum beats. With loud and soft dynamics and live performances which are honest and powerful with equal measures of restraint and excess, Penguins Kill Polar Bears’ performance will never translate into words without losing some of its energy and vibrance.
Notable gigs playing with such bands as Nine Black Alps, Twin Atlantic, The Xcerts, And So I Watch You From Afar, Tubelord, and The Besnard Lakes have been the springboard to a rapidly growing fan base from Scotland and beyond. With various sold out headline gigs themselves, Penguins Kill Polar Bears are, in their own right, an act not to be missed.
http://www.penguinskillpolarbears.co.uk
Here's my stab at it......
There are a lot of amazing bands out there that defnitely should expect big things for next year and the future:
The Voyeurist
Ghosts you Echo
Hella Better Dancer
Detachments
Hocus Tocus
Don't Wait Animate
All of those guys for sure..
Factory Floor
http://drownedinsoundcloud.com/post/1461814322/factory-floor-lying-over-at-dis-towers-your
weren't they a 2010 tip?
hey, fuck!
I also did not know that a KaitO member is in Factory Floor. Would never guess it from FF's sound, either.
BTW, is that a second EP from them, then?
pretty sure it's the first one?! http://soundcloud.com/mark-dj/sets/planning-application
Factory Floor had an EP called "Lying" out earlier this year
Title track is great. Others vary from "alright" to "yeah, yeah, we get it: you like aimless noise".
http://blastfirstpetite.greedbag.com/buy/lying-a-wooden-box/
i think we tipped Bloc Party two years before they released an album
increasingly people are 'tipping' bands far too early, innit. although the gap between stuff at fashion week reaching the high st has shrunk, it still takes a hella lot of time for a band like Blood Red Shoes to get to playing to 2000 people in London and being on the Radio1 playlist. consistency is important :)
Spark
http://sparkthemusic.co.uk/ i reckon big things will happen 2011, just released a 7" on neon gold (ellie goulding, marina etc & just signed with 679.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdYDivTc8y0&feature=fvw
Today's tip: ANR
http://drownedinsoundcloud.com/post/1469708374/anr-awesome-new-republic-2011-tip
(some of the tracks sound rather like shimmering Cooper Temple Clause tracks without Ben wasn't singing - some of you will know what this means)
yeah, i've not heard anyone doing anything subtle and utterly overwhelming for a while. did really love the Villagers record this year but finding its solo acts more like m83 carrying the gauntlet that blows me away. tis very odd. must be thousands of incredible people making very slight music that doesn't instantly connect and isn't being dredged up by the tribal gathering that is the blogosphere.
POST WAR GLAMOUR GIRLS
Easily the best live band i've seen all year,
energetic and heartfelt.
Myspace doesn't do them justice
www.myspace.com/postwarglamourgirls
just about to put together a little mixcloud mix of new stuff for 2011, any last minute tips/reminders of things i should check out?
Wingman
could be ones to keep an eye.
Chickenhawk might do some interesting things too.
Kong are touring Japan in January. New album for 2011.
Couple of splits and a new album for Castrovalva in early 2011 too.
Pulled Apart by Horses to get even bigger
is this bands who are going to get press or bands who we think are good?
the first quarter of the year is normally diametrically opposed, where somehow the bbc's tips for the year dictate the next six months
I hope screaming females get some love, they're good, it will be all mona and the vaccines though guitar wise
to be honest, i care more about quality than scale. I'm just about to send in my names for the BBC list, and part of me is thinking it doesn't matter what i vote for, as Blondes and memoryhouse are never gonna make the list as Nicki Minaj and James Blake will be on most people's lists.
meanwhile, I made this little mix tape, including some of the suggestions from folks above that i liked http://www.mixcloud.com/seaninsound/drowned-in-sound-some-tips-for-2011/
I was talking to someone else who votes in the BBC polls
and they said that because half a dozen names are pretty much guarenteed by all it feels like a relatively pointless exercise.
these lists are too dictated by expected marketing spend so they become self fulfilling prophecies
nice to see you've included worriedaboutsatan, not even that into them but a lot of people would not include them as a 'new band'
well the BBC rules wouldn't allow me to vote for them, due to the silliness of the poll
The BBC's Sound of 2011 aims to showcase the best new music. A range of UK-based tastemakers have been invited to take part by naming their favourite new acts.
If you have been invited, please complete the form below. A list of the acts with the most votes will be compiled and published in December and January. Last year's coverage is here.
BBC Sound of 2011 - how it works
Please give the names your favourite three new music acts, in order of preference.
They can be performers of any description - bands, singers, MCs etc.
They should be the best, most exciting acts, in your opinion. Please base your choices on quality, not on hype or size of record deal.
They must not have had a UK top 20 single or album by 14 November 2010.
They can be from any musical genre and any country.
They must not already be famous (eg member of a hit band going solo, or soap star). No X Factor/American Idol/etc.
New means new to the general public. They may have been around for a while if you believe they are ready to step up to the next level of quality & recognition.
You must not be related (eg relative, close friend) or have any financial or other commercial connection with your chosen acts. You must not have worked for them or on their behalf, or be planning to do so – eg PR, label, managing, promoting etc.
Your choices will remain strictly confidential. Your name and title will be published on the BBC News website in a list of participants.
You should not publicise the fact that you have been invited as a tastemaker in order to promote any commercial venture.
We reserve the right to exclude an act if, in our sole discretion, we believe there has been a deliberate attempt to manipulate the result.
Any personal information you submit will be held by the BBC and only your name and role will be published on the Sound of 2011 website. Your details will not be passed to any third party without your consent. Please visit the BBC's Privacy & Cookies Policy (www.bbc.co.uk/privacy) for more information.
also, can you imagine this lot agreeing on ANYTHING?!
http://bbc.in/9HJlyU
I dunno...
...You and I like ale.
People who get worked up about whether a band is "new" or not.
Are by and large...well. Silly.
are they selling out the 02, or even Shepherd's Bush Empire
then, no, they're not established and therefore new.
2011 will be the year m82 and Cut Copy "do a Phoenix" - which means, get big outside of the UK, whilst the UK media reluctantly follows along, several months later.
M82 and Cut Copy
New lp's sounding good them Sean? Two of my major favourites.
Looking forward to 2011 already!
ps I know your also a massive Phoenix fan. Those clips from Madsion Square Garden fill me with pride!

Dog is Dead
Massively excited about Dog Is Dead, they're playing on Skins so they'll get a lot of attention anyway - but their music is brilliant too. They're playing london 14th dec too http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=171138686247430
check em out on myspace http://www.myspace.com/dogisdeadband .Also think big things for The Jezabels and Fixers

Haha
I think they are just ok, the hype isn't helping matters.
Wouldn't be surprised if they ended up on BBC's Sound of 2011 though, not that that's anything to brag about.

I'd like to see
Funeral Party have a good year, seen them a few times recently and they've got a good body of songs. I think The Joy Formidable could cross over, but I'm not sure.
surprised nobody has mentioned
I Dream In Colour. Best live band I have seen this year by far
Found
First album for Chemikal Underground out in the spring.
from a DiSy perspective
Clem Leek, put out an album on Hibernate a couple of weeks ago, which is a lovely mix of affecting neo-classical, varied field recordings and elements of drone)
Lee Noble, only released some really beautiful tapes so far, but when he released a full record he should pick up a lot of attention. listen to on bandcamp - http://leenoble.bandcamp.com
Jeans Wilder, had some degree of popularity for a while. tapes on bathetic are pretty swell. seems to be making some more poppy stuff; if he puts out an lp it'll probably pick up attention in the same way Julian Lynch did this year.)
matthewdavid, when this dude's first full-length drops in (i think) 2010, it's gonna be amazzzzing. runs leaving records, and mates with FlyLo and stuff like that.
Demdike Stare, after the success of OPN and Emeralds in the relative mainstream this year, maybe next year could be Demdike Stare's as they release a triptych of previously vinyl-only albums in January. Very few British people making more interesting, relevant, inventive music right now.
+ Swanox, who's just put out on absolutely gorgeous tape on Not Not Fun, that he describes as 'loner drone-folk', and kind of reminds me of a mix between Natural Snow Buildings and early Bill Callahan, or someone like that. It's really good.

Tipping Wu Lyf
To be DIS' most hated band of 2011, replacing the Gap formerly filled by The Drums who will partake in some kind of group suicide pact soon.
Brother
can only assume they'll be going on to greater things with the amount of backing they have and they're faces on the cover of nme before they do anything substantial
www.acidlove.net
whats the general opinion?
Lord Huron
Presuming he/they release(s) an album in 2011. The two EPs released in 2010 were really good. The has been some Pitchfork attention, but this is much more than just a buzz band, any fans of folk/baroque pop should definitely check it out. Kind of a Panda Bear/Fleet Foxes cross.
