David Sneddon writes songs for Hurts?
http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/dec/17/noughties-number-one
about three quarters of the way down...
Do you ever feel like its all just constantly one big lie. Whats the point.
Fucking music industry.
I dont know why I continue to be so naive

ah come on it doesn't matter
who gives a shit about hurts?
that's a good article
It's like the Hitler Diaries all over again
For whatever reason i cannot open that article.
But i sat next to david sneddon at a dinner a couple of months ago and he was a perfectly charming and interesting fellow.
Stop bitching.
And do some work.
Do I have to?
I really really dont want to. Half our bloody office have stayed hiome as well today because of the frost on the floor everyone is pissing themselves about... bloody lightweight pieces of crap I tell you!
Pretty thin numbers here, too.
But I have to plough through a series of classical reviews. About as much fun as having teeth pulled. Though just as essential. Traa-laa-laa.
Honestly
what is the ACTUAL problem you have with this?
I think you'd be surprised by quite how many bands either co-write or have songs written for them that are supposedly 'cool'.
Hurts wrote songs for other people too
they're pretty accomplished songwriters so they'll no doubt play the game both ways.
when i say hurts
i mean one of the guys i think - i'm not sure if its true, but post 'daggers' (their previous band) they had a publishing deal and wrote for others, APPARENTLY.
Which does beg the question
why they've deemed it necessary to write with every last person on the planet to desperately pull this album together after realising they've only got one decent song...
it's easier?
'playing the game'? major labels prefer it? No idea really.
I have no issue with other people writing songs for other people..
or vice versa.
In fact it is a good way for bands/songwriters to make money particularly if you want to do something which does not fit in with your sound.
My issue comes when these bands are marketing as writing their own material then dont, it will be even worse if the songs are all credited to hurts in the sleeve and they just pay sneddon et al off.
I know this happens a lot and with lots of people you would never expect it of and the practice in itself is not the issue its the deception that bugs me.
nice to meet you the other night two sips
you too
even if it was very brief!
To be fair on hurts, they've not been marketed one way or another yet. They've not said they wrote their own songs, but then again they've not said they had help. They technically haven't lied or owt!
one song and your point is proven?
lazy posting.
Yes lots of songs are co written thats not the point of the thread, the point is the deception to create some faux credibility.
You would get far more credibility by just saying "we are a pop act we write some songs other people help us with some" thats fine guys carry on, just dont lie to people and treat them like idiots who cant like a band who dont write all their own songs.
Its like writing a song that has sections from other songs in and claiming it as your own.
Just be honest, is that too much to ask?
yeah this is a good point actually.
I cant think of anything to say I have jumped a conclusion.
I will retreat if that is ok with everyone now...
Not sure why I got soo worked up
to thread-jack (which you will probably not mind now given the abrupt conclusion)
how was your gig? Cargo's a lovely venue!
if anything I thank you for the thread-jack
I was starting to look a little silly due to my irrational original response to finding out the above facts and not really considering what their aims might be and how they wish to present themselves.
The gig was good actually, nice open minded crowd, lovely organisers, nice venue and a fantastic sound engineer. Wonderful stuff.
Did you like Hammer? He is a funny gent, when you guys next playing down this way (i.e the south east) would love to come see you.
Similarly
James from Busted wrote for Blue, apparently.
I returned the lunchbox, I'll say that much.
"Write for" and "recorded" aren't inseperable, though, are they?
Johnny Borrell was supposedly writing songs for Florence and the Machine, but that trail went cold.
apparently i look really like him.
:(
holy moly you really do
I can tell you for a fact he is getting a percentage of royalties for at least two of their songs...
but f they admit that then no problem. Goulding however has been harping on about how she writes her own songs and shit so if she is using other peoples work and passing it off as her own she can piss off.
Pop albums are just like various artist albums now, it would appear to be almost an industry norm for this sort of thing to happen.
It really is the norm
for solo artists/pop bands etc.......look at Florence - she had three producers working on her album, and I'm almost certain (can't be arsed checking) she wrote with them. These days when a certain artists has potential they'll stick them in the studio with several song writers and just see what happens - it tends to speed up the writing process, and it costs little (usually just studio costs).....well it costs little in return for the potential payout they could get if they write a huge hit.
yeah exactly
Pop music is pop music and that is fine. They did write Wonderful Life by the looks of things but its a couple of the others which may or may not be on the album they have presumably recorded.
They are being very cleverly handled and a thread this long about them will certainly not upset them at all.
Probably gonna be massive arent they? I dont really get it personally but ho hum.
what's a Hurts?
