URGENT!! HELP PLEASE!!!

robluvsnic [Edit] [Delete] 6 replies 05:12, 24 July '09

During a recent chat with a virtual friend, I had cause to realise that, now that I mostly listen to music in digital form, more often than not via a flash-driven MP3 player, it is no longer strictly accurate to say that I am going to give X album a "spin".

However, I am at a complete loss for any alternative that would be appropriate to the digital-tech mode of music consumption. My friend and I have tried out all of the following, but have ruled each out for one reason or another:

click (too boring)
run (ditto)
flash (confuses the action with the tech)
buzz (too obscure)
fly (likewise)
shake (annexed by Apple's new shake-to shuffle function)
burn (already taken for other digital-music related purposes)
jaunt (no explanation needed)

I'm currently tossing up between "sequence" and "cycle", each of which is attractive and apt for different reasons, though they're hardly perfect.

Anyone got any other suggestions?

  • I like to say I'm 'wheeling' an album

    particularly when using my iPod

yes, particularly apt for the old iPods. But there's the rub, innit? Already on its way out, no?

The future looks set to see plenty of people "touching" an album, I s'pose, but I can't help but think the term invites confusion...

as if anyone would say they're going to "listen" to an album!
