uh... just... wow.
dum dum girls, pens and now this...
makes a bit more sense now. still a bit wow though.
they signed Pens?! This might make me actually go and make music. I mean, jesus christ, anyone can get a record deal these days.
I mean, I like Pens, but JESUS SHIT. Sub Pop must just be signing anyone these days. I wanna get on Matador.
"rising from a flourishing DIY scene in their adopted hometown of Dalston, London"
i can see how it would look much rosier from the outside too.
plus, fleeting though most of the current 'dalston' scene bands will inevitably be, their shows are always good for a night out.
having said that, male bonding are maybe one of the few bands from this scene i'm not so keen on.
just the use of "hometown of Dalston, London" amused me.
Such a shit band.
Sub Pop signing English bands upsets me. I need to get over that.
This time next year we'll be millionaires.
I'm salivating at the thought.
still, i enjoy them, they have some good songs, so it'd be nice for sub pop to fund a full length.
still don't get the pens signing though.
is really funny in many ways.
they dress american, speak american, and try and spend as much time as possible over there.
still, i enjoy their music.
It's all just a bit of fun.
Half the posts on here are full of Valley Speak. "Rad", "awesome", "totally", "dude", etc. I used "totally" twice up the top of this thread! Still Valley Speak is totally awesome, dude, and, like, American bands rule, so whatever.
Gag me with a spoon!
no-one will get this.
mad but gr8.
ends up being worth fifty squillion pounds.
Or is it some sort of distribution thing?
But that's literally all I've seen alluding towards it.
looking at it, SBL-76071 doesn't seem to be a sub pop cat #, and that page seems a bit orphaned.
looks like they're on De Stijl, whose records are distributed by Sub Pop.
So, not ON Sub Pop, as such.
so many petty jealous replies. Male Bonding have taken it up a notch, last two times I've seen them they've been utterly incredible and I genuinely believe they deserve this. After all, it is a positive thing that a D.I.Y British band without a manager, booking agent or any outside influences are able to put out a record on the same label Nirvana were on. It is a positive thing that people are appreciating underground art that doesn't come from America for a change. You kids really make me laugh a lot. Oh, and don't talk shit on dude culture, it is a knowing thing you patronising losers. We're aware how it sounds but its FUN to say dude and rad and pizza tastes good and YOU ALL SUCK.
I don't really frequent these forums and felt I had something to say so I don't really give a fuck how old it is, I didn't feel the new to start a new thread.
check the new issue of 'loud and quiet'. :-)
And how made up was I when the day i received the Eat Skull/Male Bonding split 7s from the manufacturers was the day i found out they signed to Sub Pop. Such good news.
Oh and buy it here if ya quick enough to get a copy...
your link was busted:
Loud And Quiet.
To paraphrase, they said that this forum is the equivalent of an indie music BNP rally, calling it "rancid".
i think it was just genuine suprise that such a huge label picked up a small band from london on the back of a couple of 7"s with no manager or anything. pretty wild, but amazing. the songs they're writing keep getting better too, so the lp will more than likely be great.
i really like male bonding, seeing it on pitchfork was a huge one for the "wtf did that come from?" file.
I like Male Bonding, and I'm sorry to hear this thread annoyed them – I can see how some of the comments might – but it clearly wasn't meant as anything hostile.
No Age and Abe Vigoda are from the Smell scene, Male Bonding are doing it in London.
and they don't sound exactly the same at all.
Have them shot!
There's been THOUSANDS of British bands that have imitated American ones. Look at the Beatles or the Rolling Stones, ffs.
pretty weak arguement.
more importantly: they're a really fun band.
I'm not sure how covering "Advert" by Blur fits into the whole they-just-want-to-be-a-Smell-band thing.
I genuinely don't think they sound particularly alike and I am not a bitter person, I'm a joyful dude. I just found it incredible that so many people were unwilling a band I genuinely believe to be one of the best in the country doing well and doing everything by themselves. I don't really hear much No Age or Abe Vigoda in their sound to be honest but hey, whatever. Message boards are kind of lame, I have no idea why I bothered posting but I'M RIGHT.
and you look a bit silly.
no DUDE, you look silly BRO. SHUT UP.
let's go and eat pizza. yeah? yeah.
i've had one of their songs stuck in my head all day.
their drummmer was in bullet union i think. good drummer.
i am not irish by the way.
are male bonding any good then? I quite liked abe vigoda when i heard them doing some marc riley session.
and good things (sometimes) happen to good bands.
Will keep an ear out.
ive never heard them. or abe vigoda for that matter.
