when all the doors are shut tight, iwill dream you tonight, and my dream will just sweep you along.
followed by Westfall. Possibly the best ten minutes of my life.
what have they got against down the river of golden dreams? Not a single song from it and when I saw them in december they only played one song then.
I can't sleep now :( I want more Will Sheff
Proved that the sublime Luminaire show wasn't a one off. Our Life Is Not A Movie->For Real->Westfall was as good as live music gets.
i'd been quite looking forward to L of T too, but oh well.
okkervil river were sublime.
last fm lied to me :(
i thought i missed them because i arrived a bit later.
Glad to have been in middle bar but wasn't too fussed in the end.
Sheffs voice was better than I expected it to be and there were some truly sublime moments where he captivated the audience attention.
Would have liked them to have played some stuff off of Golden Dreams but that is a minor criticism in an otherwise very impressive peformance.
yes they are. that was my fourth time, and they've been incredible every time. even last year in brighton, when they will sheff was heroically wasted and the band looked destroyed from having been on the road for about five months.
i told someone i'd make them an okkervil CD, and since i'm off work because my stomach hurts like fuck and i'm still on a high from last night, i'm working on it now.
i wanted to keep it to 12/13 tracks and less than an hour, and this is what i've come up with:
1/ The President's Dead
2/ No Key, No Plan
3/ For Real
4/ Blanket And Crib
5/ A Hand To Take Hold Of The Scene
7/ A Stone
8/ Unless It's Kicks
9/ Song Of Our So-Called Friend
10/ Happy Hearts
11/ Plus Ones
12/ And I Have Seen The World Of Dreams
13/ John Allyn Smith Sails
i'm listening through to it now, it actually flows pretty well and manages to take in all their major releases. any thoughts??
Hadn't worked out a running order except for Westfall would definitely be the closer. Approximate tracklist would be:
Listening to Otis Reading
Another Radio Song
So quite few difference to yours. I really don't like Happy Hearts and War Criminal must must must be included.
War Criminal but i can't seem to make it fit :'(
this is for a girl, that may have influenced my track choices ;)
and i'm not sure about happy hearts actually, i'll probably ditch that..
a stone > unless it's kicks is KILLER, however. try it.
it slots in really well between unless it's kicks and song of our so-called friend. yay!
If it's for a girl i don't think including Westfall is the best idea ;)
EVERYONE likes a good murder ballad, surely? :D
I'd want to include Our Life Is Not A Movie but I can't think what I'd leave off
'no key, no plan'! ^5
i would put 'the latest toughs' in too - my heart skipped a few beats when they did it last night.
when they did no key, no plan in brighton :)
i was freezing my ass off at St Marys watching under 21 football last night. Bastards.
that was a dream setlist, really.
when I saw them they played that, stopped, had a five minute monologue and then all launched back into the song all at exactly the same moment, it was one of the best things i've ever seen
They seem to ignore Down The River of Golden Dreams
that gig was amazing. Probably the best set out of the three times I've seen them. We got War Criminal, Song About A Star and So Come Back I Am Waiting.
