I need lots more rock 'n' roll, but have no idea where to start, please help me. x
Gene Vincent and the Blue Cats- bluejean bop
Johnny Burnette and the rock n roll trio
Elvis's first one
Then unless you are a feverish collector of seven inches like me, get some decent comps- by which I mean not stuff you'd get in a service station...stuff on obscure labels. if it has wild and primitive artwork, and you've never heard of any of the bands on it, its probably very good
Also- Bo Diddley's first album, and individual tracks by Frankie Ford (sea cruise), Paul Chaplin (shortenin bread), Phil Flowers (no kissin at the hop), Jan and Arnie (jennie lee), Ricky Nelson (milkcow blues) etc etc...
and little richard.
that'll do. no, really.
and buddy holly obviously.
what do you think of that Johnny Burnette album I recommended?
but i'll keep an eye/ear out
Link Wray is more 60's although Wiki tells me he released some singles in the 50's. Never mind, he's good though.
this must be an appropriate place to pimp the Tielman Brothers some more...
check this out if you haven't seen it!
that's excellent, possibly a bit 1960s for this thread, but none the less...
Want the moon on a stick, do ya? ;)
Seriously though...rock and roll isn't a phenomena neatly divided into 'fifties and not fifties'. That is totally not 'a bit sixties' just cos it was made in 1960...
Here's a clip from them in '59 if the date is that important
and no one noticed:
