new album, out august 7th :)
does anyone know whether they're playing anywhere other than ATP? i'm desperate to see them.
must be doing a warm up somewhere? Bit late in the day now though I suppose.
...that they are supporting Daniel Johnston in Manchester.
that was started by me. based on guest work.
this could be so amazing. I absolutely can't wait to see them again at ATP.
Unless there's a repeat of the Black Sheep Boy farrago where the UK release got continually delayed and then was reissued with Appendix added about a month later (er, assuming there'll be a The Stage Names Appendix), but then that's what mp3s are for.
there's an article on here that says they're signed to Virgin in 'Europe' but I'm not sure that includes the UK - I've certainly only ever seen Jagjaguwar-issued CDs in shops here..
and am so excited about their ATP performance I think it might be the highlight of the festival for me if it goes well.
Is the album they did before it any good? Allmusic says it's better.
Will listen to Black Sheep Boy on my way to work tomorrow.
As a side note I think Black Sheep Boy is the most covered song on my ipod. Are there any more versions than these.
Tim Hardin (though I never really got into the rest of his stuff)
Paul Weller (not a fan but a bloody good cover)
yes the two before are just as good, if not better in their own special ways, each one a little different
Down The River Of Golden Dreams which is really quite excellent, it's definitely more alt-country than Black Sheep Boy, and almost as brilliant.
has some lovely high points (Red, the duet with Daniel Johnston,, and also has The Okkervil River Song which is ace ace ace. wouldn't say that overall it's as good as Black Sheep Boy, but still a rather lovely little album.
if you go here: http://www.jound.com/okkervil/discography.html - you can read some interesting things written by will schaff about each release :)
the okkervil river/daniel johnston duet is the song Happy Hearts
which i'm hoping they'll play at ATP :)
daniel plays on the friday and leaves saturday morn, okkervil play the 19th :(
doesn't mean they won't do it in his set though :)
that at Cargo last year, obviously without Daniel Johnston.
I've heard a few songs off Don't Fall In Love, I really need to pick up the album. I hope they play Westfall :D
So many of my favourite bands have released disappointing records this year. Please don't follow, Okkervil!
