        • ...

they are re-releasing black sheep boy, with black sheep boy appendix in one double cd pack soon...but aside from that, thats the newest thing....other stuff not even recorded yet...as far as i knew?

          scottoneill @guntrip | 26 Feb '07, 12:32 | X
          • yeah, i know that

they're recording a new album at the moment. they had to stop for a bit recently though because Will Sheff lost his voice.

they also released a 12"/CD EP last year with "the president's dead" on the a-side, and they played a bunch more new stuff when i saw them in october.

            • is the

CD actually an EP?? i've got the 12" but its only got two songs on it.
i need to hear their earlier albums...

              seeingotherpeople @guntrip | 26 Feb '07, 13:03 | X
              • didn't realise the 12" only had two tracks on it

why on earth did they bother?!?

the CD has 5 tracks on it but i think it was a tour-only release, so i'm not sure how easy it is to get hold of outside of shows. they didn't have any when i saw them :'(

                  • argh

i want the cd version instead now :( looks like it's aus-only though.

  • Westfall is easily my favourite Okkervil song

But I rarely listen to it all the way through anymore. It's certainly good, but Down The River.. and Black Sheep Boy are, to me, perfection.

    PocketMouse | 26 Feb '07, 13:15 | X
    • i listened to all three this morning

      :'(

also, my new headphones are buggered, and i'm only getting the right channel. doesn't matter for most of their stuff, but 'black' was just bass and vocals..

  • This features some of my favourite Okkervil songs...

Lady Liberty (Will's Dylanesque laugh is so great), Westfall (probably my second favourite overall), Happy Hearts (Daniel Johnston greatness), and Red (I suppose, but Yellow and Black are better).

Black Sheep Boy is pretty much flawless, and definitely top5 records ever for me.

Their latest two EPs have been absolutely incredible too, I'd say if you add them together, they feature more *amazing* songs than any of their albums:

    O, Dana (Big Star)
Another Radio Song (without a doubt my favourite Okkervil River track)
    Last Love Song For Now
    No Key, No Plan
    The President Is Dead
    The Room I'm Hiding In
    Missing Children.

Okkervil River are my second favourite band.

Hmmm.... I hate posts where a band I love gets mentioned once in a while, and I just ramble and ramble about them.

    See: http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/1655755#r1666811

    :(

Ugh. I won't be able to listen to anything but them for a while..

    TheWildSon | 26 Feb '07, 16:15 | X
    • i've listened to pretty much

      nothing OR today.

i need to buy the 3 EPs I'm missing, really...

      guntrip @TheWildSon | 26 Feb '07, 16:19 | X
      • You really do. They're amazing!

I'd say go for the BSB Appendix first, followed by Overboard & Down.

O, Dana is so Springsteeny, and overblown, and anthemic, and awesome.
