Travis

We were having a few beers last night and they crept into the conversation, something along the lines of how they've suddenly been erased from history over the past few years, and yet both 'Good Feeling' and 'The Man Who' are both awesome records that stand the test of time. Also, the general consensus was that 'The Beautiful Occupation' was one of the most underrated singles this side of the millennium.

Even more disturbing was that the Fratellis came on the jukebox in the pub where we were, and it suddenly clicked to all of us just how much they shamelessly rip off Fran Healy and co.

Anyone else got any thoughts on this?

  • I agree, regarding The Beautiful Occupation.

Apart from that, their new stuff was just dull.

    • Their old stuff

was really good though. The likes of 'The Line Is Fine', 'U16 Girls', 'Driftwood' et al still sound great today, and those useless fuckers the Fratellis have blatantly ripped off the last two for their own previous couple of singles!

      • the line is fine

what a tune! i'd forgotten how much i love this song, i'm gonna bung it on now...

      • The Line is Fine

is brilliant! I might just listen to that now. Thanks for reminding me!

  • .....

Driftwood was their best single. I like it muchly

    • I was at a gig

last week, and Fran Healy appeared, to do a cover of Dancing Queen and then stand on top of a piano to do an acoustic version of Driftwood. It was good in many, many ways, and I'm not even a big Travis fan!

  • I was talking about Travis in the pub last night too

The first album has some great pop songs on it and I think The Man Who has some lovely tracks too (Driftwood, She's So Strange). I also agree with what you say about The Beautiful Occupation.

The Invisible Band was rubbish though.

    • and Blue Flashing Light is great.

      • Blue Flashing Light is their best song I think

It annoys me that it's a hidden track.

I love Good Feeling, that's a great album. Shame they went all acoustic and rubbish after that.

  • I heard

"flowers in the window" over the Christmnas period.

I could not contain myself and had a 20 minute rant about the badness of that tune and the appalling lyrics within. It led onto a debate over Travis's shocking mediocrity and I had to have a lie down afterwards.

The fact that Fran and his clan have gone quiet fills me with much joy.

    • They should

fit in perfectly with the current successful wave of mediocrity being led by Cunt, Snow Patrol etc.

    • I hate them. I really, really hate them.

They are the embodiment of no-talent lowest-common-denominator faux-meaningful drippy bedroom poetry acoustic night bullshit.

Sorry to spoil the pary etc. But I actually quite violently dislike them and everything their music represents.

      • haha

        "real"
        "talented"
        say it again.

      • Travis

is a very good french comic book.
And a really average band that makes Snow Patrol sounds great.

      • The Beautiful Occupation is lame

It was all about Love Will Come Through. They used it for the final scene of the final episode of Wonderfalls. Magic.

      • i LOVE early travis.

they don't deserve some of the beatings they get.

        • I can see

where Brainlove is coming from, in a round-a-bout sort of way, as they opened the door for Coldplay et al, albeit unknowingly, but they certainly deserve more credit in the best of the post-millennium crowd than they're being given, and it does feel like they've been deliberately cast aside like lepers.

          domgourlay @sarkyfox | 30 Dec '06, 18:52 | X
      • I'm listening to

I Love You Anyways right now, it's a lovely lovely song. Brainlove would hate it :)
