The Wikipedia entry writers, the MySpace-obsessed and broadsheet readers: they're all alike; all hoping that, if they hold on, they can tell people on blogs and in pubs that they were part of something at the core of this decade's cultural movement; a culture which has turned its back to the TV and thrown out its playlisted radio, in favour of broader, braver, more innovative things...»

The 60-year-old says: "I wake up realising my own particular kind of damage was caused by using headphones in the recording studio, not playing live. Earphones do the most damage. Maybe it is an act. Maybe it isn't. The set includes a couple of beautiful covers ‘House of the Rising Sun' and a truck-stopping rendition of the Everly Brothers' ‘All I Have To Do is Dream', plus ‘Names' from previous album ‘You Are Free'. The rest just Chan and her amaretto-soaked voice, a guitar, a piano, dublin and me. It's like prematurely unwrapping presents hidden in the airing cupboard, the set is the treat of the new album 'The Greatest' (due January 2006).»
