I received this 6 track EP a while back and I remember thinking on first hearing it 'Damn, this is really good! I will have to listen to this again!... and promptly lost the bloody CD! Almost 4 months later I have found it again and it is still as wonderful as when I first heard it!
Set for original release on 16 May, this can be described as delayed brilliance. Opener 'Slow Watch For Children' lulls you in to a false state of calm with violins, tippy-tappy snares and lightly strummed guitars and all seems mellow and wonderful in the world... and then 'Some Hostage You Turned Out To Be' comes out like a caged animal with all its dirty riffs and coming on slightly like Dive Dive live set-closer 'The Croc'. The influences of this band are obvious with the likes of Shellac & Fugazi or a more indie influenced Biblical Proof Of UFOs gnawing away throughout. Closing proceedings with 'Love American Style', the band decide to go all quiet and mellow again making this in to a veriable rock sandwich with 2 slices of light melodica with a filling of grinding guitar, insistant drumming and a slight jazzy side dressing.
6 songs in 12 minutes is damn good going, especially when you are thinking at the end 'Is it finished already?'. Still stupidly young, doubtlessly very talented and having already done a fair amount of gigging supporting the likes of Reynolds, Econoline & Lapsus Linguae, the future seems very bright for these Essex lads!
