With the exception of one compilation album track with a different vocalist, the Gold Chains EP is the first outing for Topher Lafata, whom a few people may have seen ripping apart venues earlier in the year supporting and upstaging Laptop whizzkid Kid 606 under the Gold Chains moniker.

Taking in 5 tracks and clocking in at around 25 minutes, The Gold Chains EP treats us to bizarre accordion solo’s over ambient soundscapes on I come from San Francisco, old skool hip hop twisted until it transforms into a reggae noise hip hop explosion on No.1 face in hip hop, as well as a wealth of samples taking in everything from opera to moog, and even Stereolab on Rock the Parti, all backing Lafata’s mental rhymes about how fantastic Gold Chains are.

He’s got reason to brag, as in the space of 25 minutes, Topher Lafataput's a fresh take on to the tired electronic hip hop genre that previously only Chilli Gonzales and Peaches have managed to excel at.
