It appears that little news has been released to the public but after discovering that Bell X1 had their gig cancelled, we contacted the venue for some information and received this reply :-
'The Square is closing from 31st August 2003 for a period of about 3 months for an evaluation and review of the projects and programmes that we run...'
The venue is one of the few left in the Essex county for bands on nationwide tours. Bands such as Capdown, Queen Adreena, Longview, I Own Kings & The Exploited have all played the venue and although this news does not specifically state that the venue will be shut down permanently, the fact that this period is being implemented at all is not a good omen.
