Upcoming Stars of Music and Comedy Unite
Ross by Ross Bennett June 30th, 2003
Next Monday the Betsey Trotwood in Farringdon, London, sees the premiere of a new cabaret night, showcasing live music and comedy. The opening line-up features sketch comedy and character stand-up, plus acoustic sets from up-and-coming musicians.

The new night is entitled ‘Sketch etc’. According to its organiser, Ed Weeks: “‘Sketch etc’ will unite some great comic and musical talent. We’re going for a mellow, intimate vibe: it’s the chance to enjoy sketches from some hilarious writer-performers, and at the same time check out some very talented singers and musicians.”

The musicians on the bill include the singer-guitarist Ben Hudson, once a resident at both the Barfly in London and Ronnie Scott’s in Birmingham, and Coachella, a rootsy acoustic duo who have been attracting public and industry buzz at venues like London’s Kashmir club.

The troupe of comedians include experienced comedy club and festival regulars, plus writers for TV sitcoms and sketch shows such as ‘Smack The Pony’. The compere, Ben Willbond, has won the Perrier Best Newcomer award for comedy and was one half of the highly successful spoof French rap act ‘Priorite a Gauche’.

“It’s very exciting to be part of a new high-quality cabaret night for London” says Weeks, “People are going to come and see some real stars of the future.”

The first ‘Sketch etc’ takes place on Monday 7th July at 8pm, upstairs at the Betsey Trotwood, Farringdon Road EC1. Tickets are £4, or £3 concessions.
