Bradford Cox is a genius. There, I've said it. Anyway, it's a hot Friday afternoon and we're not going to mess around for much longer. The news has dropped that Deerhunter are releasing another album. It's called Halycon Digest and will be released through 4AD on September 27.
Here's a promotional flyer for it, designed by the fair hands of Mr Cox himself. It's in the style of his new-wave heroes, apparently. He asks you to photocopy it, print it out and put it up wherever you can - wherever is legal to, anyway, no fly-flyering! Then take a picture of yourself with the said printed and pinned poster and send it to flyers@halycondigest.com, where they'll be posted. Also include the name of the city or town where its posted.
You can get yourself a hi-res version of it by clicking here. Those who send in images to the e-mail address will hear via e-mail about the first single from the record in the coming weeks, as well as receiving an exclusive non-album track. Neat-o.
Of the poster idea, Cox says:
"...always being fascinated with the ephemera of 70's – 80's artrock in record stores like Wuxtry in Athens where I hung out as a kid or Wax 'N Facts in Atlanta. You'd see a photocopied faded B-52's flyer next to a poster for Lou Reed or XTC. It was like an artpunk scrapbook on those walls. It made my head spin. Who are these people? Who are the fucking Residents with these weird-ass eyeball faces?"
