Blog-adored French 'shoe-raver' (that's shoe-gaze meets electronica) M83 heads out on some of his biggest dates to date this week. DiS caught up with him to find out where his head is at before these arena shows.
Speaking to DiS, Anthony Gonzalez said:
Yeah yeah, it's a really big challenge, especially because we're playing in front of people who don't know us. I mean, no pressure, nothing bad can happen really. They are all just coming for the Kings of Leon, so we've got nothing to lose really.
On his mixtape for DiS readers he had some Iron Maiden, we asked was this a clue for what his stage show may look like?
Ha, ha! No, no. No flames and giant monsters, I don't think.
And how on earth did he get these KoL arena support dates?
They love the new album, I believe, so that's cool and they asked me to join them.
Speaking about his new single 'We Own the Sky' (which is out today) he says:
That song is certainly one of the most electronic songs from the album and there's a lot of acoustic instruments at the end of the song but it's mainly electronic. On this song I really wanted to have the same guitar sound as the Cocteau Twins album Heaven or Las Vegas and this album was a big influence for this song, I really wanted to have their dreamy sound on the keyboards. It's one of my favourite tracks from the album, I really like the choirs at the end.
Here's one of the fan submitted videos for the single:
DiS' full interview will be online later this week, with talk of his album-of-the-year-contender Saturdays = Youth, the 80s, the joys of being a teenager, his thoughts on blogging, genres like 'shoe-rave' and lots more.
DiScuss: are you off to see M83 on these dates or at their London headline shows? Is Saturdays = Youth one of your favourite albums of the year?
