Guitarist and drummer Jamie Miller joined Trail of Dead back in 2011. He joined the band as a fan and has become part of the family.
Here, he shares some of his favourite Trail of Dead songs.
1. Summer of all dead souls (Tao of the Dead)
This was the first song Jason sent to me after he had asked if I would play with the band. This was right after they had recorded the Tao of the dead album. I hadn't made a decision yet but after about 15 seconds of hearing the intro, I was in.
2. Claire de Lune (Madonna)
The first time I rehearsed with Trail, we were in a tiny room in Brooklyn NYC. I had just read a book in which Jimmy Page described a similar situation for the first Zeppelin rehearsal. He had said as soon as they started playing, the room exploded, I felt the same that day and every time we play this song live, I think back to that first rehearsal.
3. Will You Smile Again (Worlds Apart)
I know the lyrics are all good and stuff but...best drum song ever!
4. Mistakes and Regrets (Madonna)
This was the first song I'd ever heard by the band. My wife said "check out this band, They're awesome!" I said, "I'm from D.C, I liked it the first time I heard it, called Fugazi." Sometimes, I'm a dick.
5. Relative Ways (Relative Ways)
In our live set, I play this song on guitar, it's one of my favourite riffs and I love the melody.
6. Catatonic (Lost Songs)
This was a song musically written by Autry with all of us arranging it. I believe his working title was Catatonic. Jason and Conrad took the title and turned it into a cool lyric. Jason murdered the vocal, we called it future punk!
7. Aged Dolls (Madonna)
This song always turns into madness live, Conrad originally played the drums on it, I've since taken over and Dave Lombardo'd that bitch.
8. Ghost Within (IX)
We had hit a minor snag as far as our improvisational experiment for our new record was going, we were taking a break and I went to my room at the studio and wrote and recorded a demo version of this song in 15 minutes, I promptly presented it to the band, six days later...
9. Lie without a Liar (IX)
Uh oh, now the other drummer thinks he can sing.
…And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead release ‘IX’ on October 20th in Europe.
