You should really turn this up.
Kaiser Chiefs’ brilliantly buoyant new release is one of the finest singles of the year. With an undercurrent of dark, murmuring guitars pushing the topsy-turvy verse forward with a force not unlike a Boeing 747, and a chorus that cries “Pop song" with every refrain, ‘I Predict A Riot’ is a naughty, noisy slice of Indie heaven. It’s simplicity is addictive and Stephen Street’s production is full, brash and relentless – Andrew White’s semi-acoustic guitars thankfully sounding as rich and resonating as they do on stage.
This tune rumbles along with such vigour and pace that the laughably silly opening of ”Watching the people get lairy/It’s not very pretty I tell thee” (complete with Sixteenth century vocab entry) is soon forgotten. All this and it makes you want to bounce up and down like a nutter. A South African football team never sounded so good.
