Archie Bronson Outfit

Kangaroo Heart

Label: Domino Records Release Date: 23/02/2004

5626
Ross by Ross Bennett February 27th, 2004

This fierce debut from south London's Archie Bronson Outfit should be played very, very loud indeed. It’s only when your speakers begin to fall apart that the swelling reverberations of ‘Kangaroo Heart’ combine with its pounding, coughed-up blues riff to leave us with something that just falls short of sounding like a Jim Morrison-fronted Canned Heat.

Just more blues-punk retro bullshit? We shall have to wait and see. But on the strength of ‘Kangaroo Heart’ and its sizzling b-sides (‘Devils Move’ and ‘Blue Beard’) this three-piece have enough chaotic energy, grooving licks and farmyard animal obsessions (go and see them live…) to force every listener to take a deeper look into ABO’s warped world.
