Stylophonic

If Everybody In The World Loved Everybody In The World

Label: EMI Records Release Date: 27/01/2003

droberts by Dan Roberts January 22nd, 2003

The commendable ideal of the title is somewhat lost immediately as an amazingly annoyingly vocal sample kicks in at the start. This is then joined by a satisfactory jaunty bouncy beat which then meanders it way through the rest of the track without ever really deciding to do anything to make you sit up and take notice.

In fact, although the title is a very fine ideal for the future of human nature it unfortunately was lost on me due to the fact that as soon as the vocal sample was released I was looking round for someone to kill.

And there is no point looking to the other mixes for a release. The second mix by Kevin Saunderson uses the same annoying sample over an even more mind-numbing beat to really bore you into submission. You really have no idea how irritating this sample is withou listening to it for yourself. A pointer would be that it rivals the current Lemon Jelly tune for use of a shit sample - these people should know better.

The King Britt mix is a more airy dreamy house affair and to the credit of the great man, and the track, never allows the full sample to be used! Apparently Stylophonic's upcoming album is more of an eclectic affair with more of the Italian's love of hip hop on show - as long it is the exclusion of crap samples it could be worth a look.
