It's been a good year for Mew. Sellout tours with Martin Grech and the Manics, and a well received debut EP. However, being from Scandinavia, they like to do things a little differently. Hence why their second release is a limited edition, price-of-an-ice-cream, Christmas single. As we all know, Christmas songs are terrible, except for The Pogues and Slade (can't beat a classic), so I didn't really have high hopes. I was wrong.
"She Came Home For Christmas" is the kind of Christmas song the world has been waiting for - a shamelessly indie song, with vocals straight out of a Sigur Ros album and the catchiest hooks of any Christmas song of the past 10 years; hell, it's one of the year's best singles. Go out and buy now! And if you haven't started Christmas shopping, get a few for your mates - it's only 99p.
