Alas, the list of stars involved in the making of ‘Strung Out’ far outweigh any excitement of this single from the angel-throated Scot perhaps best known for her associations with Death In Vegas.

Fitting then that DIV duo Tim Holmes and Richard Fearless should head the celebrity cast (Fearless is only responsible for the photography, but hey) that also boasts Mercury Rev guitar poseur Grasshopper and grunge/Pearl Jam journeyman Jeff Ament.

Throw in a rendition of ‘Sweet Surrender’ by Tim Buckley (dad of Jeff Buckley in case you were in any doubt) and what’s left is a record inferior to the sum of its parts. Which is never a good thing.

Dot Allison’s most stunning beauty has come from minimalism and, as luck would have it, this is nearer the sub-DIV rip-offs that infect drone rock and lounge dance acts left, right and centre. Imagine Electroclash done by Sleeper. Exactly. And given the Holmes/ Fearless involvement, that’s unforgivable.
