I don't fall in love with bands very often. Fall in love with the music, I mean. And while I'm not 'in love with' The Broken Family Band, per se, I do harbour a growing affection for them.
This'll be that alt.country/Americana thing which is supposedly 'cool' to like now. They recently signed to "semi acoustic for the people" label Snowstorm (also home of Chris T-T).
'Twisted' is your paranoid "you hate me really, don't you?" girlfriend lament. "Would you love me if I was prettier?"... though I'm sure the lyrics were changed tonight for a ruder version. Heartbreak music for the masses. It's one of the standouts. To wit, your correspondent has only heard a 3-track demo before so does not know the song titles. So that's all your getting. They may have also played 'Walking Back To Jesus' and 'Behind The Church' (my fave) but I can't remember cos I was drunk on cider and didn't take notes. Hey, I wasn't planning on reviewing this you know.
What you need to know is that The Broken Family Band are basically a more bitter version of other Windmill regulars Goldrush. Yes, a bitter, blues-ier, more country-fied Goldrush. There is nothing to dislike about them at all. Unless you hate alt.country.
I expect they will feature on an 'Uncut' cover CD very soon, if they haven't already.
They said afterwards this was their worst ever gig. Fools.
I like The Broken Family Band. They are GRATE.
