MISSION: Bell X1, the country/label-mates of U2*, return to wage war on the UK public with new single. Commentary by *DiS.
The Contenders: Coming across here, though probably not on purpose, as the illegitimate lovechild of said Irish megastars and lost Britpoppers Longpigs, Bell X1 are very likely riding high in the charts of their home country with this as we speak. It’s the kind of song that would.
What Are Their Chances?: ‘Tongue’ tries hard to be anthemic, but just ends up being erm… sturdy. There’s no memorable chorus, see? And the lyrics? Well, they’re delivered passionately enough, but yelling “Who am I fooling/I like airline food” is never gonna convince your average punter into booking themselves on a cheap flight to Brussels, is it?
Round Up/Advice: This effort leaves the impression of a band struggling for identity. They need to buck up their ideas if they want to be anything more than a budget U2. Better luck next time, guys. Guys...?
