As far as Kelly Jones is concerned, it's all about the song writing. I read this interview he did in the NME a few months ago where he bemoaned the state of British song writing, and demanded that people got back to "proper" song writing and forgot about this stupid Dance music. "Proper" song writing Kelly? What, like this?
For a man who constantly swipes at manufactured bands, this is a pretty manufactured song. So predictable, so formulaic, so dull. It just frustrates me that Jones seems to think that "proper" song writing constitutes boring acoustic strumming, cod-philosophical lyrics, and a nice bit of harmonica at the end.
I'd like to know what we're all about"?? Wow, Kell!! Questioning our existence!! What a good, original idea!! "Will I get old and die, with someone"?? Yeah, cos you're an unattractive, poor bastard aren't you Kelly!! You're certain to die alone!! In your mansion.
This is first and foremost a tired record. Kelly Jones currently seems to be going through the motions, and trying to pass it off with some kind of 'authenticity' tag to it.
Why don't you tell it like it really is?? you ask, Kelly. What, that you're a horrible, backward-looking, no ideas band who think that all music made after 1974 is poo?? Right.

Re: Stereophonics - Step On My Old Size Nines
Can't review the latest thrash metal 3 piece from detroit if that genre doesn't interest him cos it wouldn't be a far review.

Stereophonics - Step On My Old Size Nines
Who forgot his chill pill this morning?. If you dislike Kelly Jones that much why did you lower yourself to write about him?
I'd be the first to agree that this may not be their best album, but you cannot call it unoriginal. You also can't say that every song sounded the same (as you find with many "modern" bands)
Would you be able to sit down and pen an intro riff like that? If you could maybe you'd be on stage somewhere rather than slagging off bands that have touched peoples lives by being different. Hey! If you don't like, Don't listen to it. Hope that you calm down soon and find a less pesamistic attitude.
Best regards Paul.
Re: Stereophonics - Step On My Old Size Nines
Calm the hell down reviewer-the album can be a bit poor in some places but at least its diverse and different. Maybe you should be thankful that at least you live somewhere where there is music such as this and more than a handful of people have heard of the band and have seen them play live. You'd be moaning you're arse off if you had to review most NZ music.

What are your thoughts on originality and being different then?
Re: Stereophonics - Step On My Old Size Nines
Re: Stereophonics - Step On My Old Size Nines
What is 'original' now anyway? Of course you can say that the Sterophoncis can be lumped into a music type but don't the lyrics matter as well?
Have a listen to Mr Writer and ponder the meaning...
Re: Stereophonics - Step On My Old Size Nines
and radiohead are still going strong! i don't know how anyone could call them rip off merchants as with every album they have changed. not only have they changed but they've also bought out stuff thats completely different to what everyone else is doing.at least theyre not so obviously in it for the money, unlike the phonics who have realised what their fans want, so will sell out to give it to them. this will get rid of the phonics quicker than anything else 'cus soon the masses opinion will change and they wud have lost all there original fans. oh well. anyway im bored of this now, lets start a new argument. who has the most sex appeal in the phonics? kelly jones or stuart cable?
stuart cable wins my vote!
