This the first release for Glasgow’s
Akira friends of Idlewild, Peeps into Fairyland and Eska**
But they’ve chosen not to be as
straightforward as those bands and have gone with a mixture of riot girl and
indie-rawk. Their two main musical influences are Sonic Youth and Sleater Kinney
and the Sleater Kinney similarities come through as soon as 19-year-old Yvonne
McClelland steps up to the mic. Her voice is practically the same as Corin’s
although Yvonne doesn’t screech like a cat when she reaches the high notes.
*‘I Dizzy You’ *is a story of an
one-sided relationship, “I do love you, do you love me too?”, the music’s
very indie sounding considering their from Glasgow. *‘Don't Hate Me’ *is
a melancholy tale of an ex-boyfriend and how the girls coping with the split,
Yvonne’s sound like she quite a confused, depressed and bitter little girl.
Hopefully one day she’ll find the right man and write some cheerful lyrics to
go with the upbeat indie music, although they’ll probably sound like a more
complex Kenickie then, hmmm decisions, decisions.
