Big Leaves have been together since the tender age of eleven years old, this there latest release is on Crai the label who put out the first few Catatonia singles.
**
Maybe I shouldn’t of put the Catatonia bit in, the first two single weren’t too bad actually, well not as bad as the drivel they produce now. Anyway where was I? Oh yeah the Big Leaves, well what can I say, the album's amazing. Out of the eleven tracks there aren’t really any obvious standouts as all the songs are so fantastic. After the thirty-something minutes zoom by, you’ll get up, press the repeat button and listen to it again and again and again until everyone in your house knows the songs.
‘Pwy Sy’n Galw’ has a pretty individual sound but if you could put SFA’s ‘Fuzzy Logic’, Gorky’s ‘Bwyd Time’ and the Beach Boys’ ‘Pet Sounds’ together it wouldn’t be too far off. Their songs average around the three-minute mark and feature layered harmonies, 70’s style guitar parts, mesmerising melodies and infectious choruses. If it was in English it would have been labelled ‘the perfect pop-rock album’ but it’s in Welsh so most people won’t even bother to give it a listen.
You're not that stupid are you?
