'lucky shiner' is a beautiful, deeply personal, highly individual album. the glittering snap and pop of modern r&b is gold panda's starting point, but the album elegantly erupts in random directions, taking in minimal techno, ambient and folktronica. the record stutters out glitched hip hop beats, purrs with binary code and pulsates with a robotic heart. in gold panda's world, vinyl-static beats and heart-on-sleeve melancholia collide, and the results are breathtaking. the album was mixed by simian mobile disco's sonic veteran james shaw and recorded in two session spent in the shady retreat of the english countryside - at his aunt and uncle's essex home.
