“Like The Twang, but without the edge,” is how one in-house DiS staffer summarised One Night Only’s ‘Just For Tonight’; me, I thought it was The Enemy doing an awful ballad when I heard it on Radio 1 however many weeks ago it was when I woke up in the coldest of sweats. 2008, it seems, belongs to The Feeling-catalysed indie-pop, and these youngsters will soon be spoken of in the same suppressed vomit tones as the aforementioned and The Hoosiers, Scouting For Girls, Palladium et al.

Beginning their live existence as a covers band specialising in Blink 182 and New Found Glory numbers, ‘Just For Tonight’’s soppiness is perfectly indicative of a band whose mindset has been altered by monetary kickbacks rather than any natural evolution: from pop-punk to indie-pop mightn’t seem that massive a leap, but I for one would much rather the boys had stuck to their baggy shorts and star jumps than ever unleash a pop monster like this unto the charts. It’ll eat them up like a Cloverfield beast would a monster-sized Pepperami; expect quite the stink in the aftermath of its inevitable success, too.

Awful.

Surely the conveyor belt of dross that produced The Feeling, Scouting For Girls, The Hoosiers and wetness like this must be running out of steam soon?

4/10

is generous. Fucking terrible song by a pathetic excuse for a band.

more like 8/10

Since when did a change of band's direction have to be because they saw money! the reason the bands direction changed was when Craig Gordon joined the band and started writing the lyrics and singing, this is a great site, but don't write reviews assuming things about bands, know the facts mate.

It's people like you who seem to think that indie music is more authentic when its not popular in the charts.

The Enemy are poor? get a life! the whole point of them is they make the manotany of the daily 9-5 routine fucking bearable when you feel shit about it.

I really hate the covention the past few years that because a band writes songs in a pop sort of way and get on tv more, and have a slightly older fan base, means they arn't credible as an actual band, ok maybe saying that mcfly are a credible band is going a bit far, but go and watch One Night Only live and your opinion will change very quickly!

I LOVE this song

It's one of those things you sometimes can't help. But in actual fact I don't like anything else they've done.

leave it to the public

One Night Only's material and general direction changed as they matured and discovered who they actually are and what works for them (and obviously their interests and influences - like all of us, they change as we grow older!. they have had lots of mixed reviews of late, people comparing them to The Killers all the way down the spectrum to Busted… Of late, the music industry has very much become very much Indie-Pop centred, so why not let them follow this route, especially if that’s the kind of band they are!?? What’s wrong with that? If the public don’t like their music they wont buy it….surely let the public decide…….!!

I'm late as fuck but

"The Enemy are poor? get a life! the whole point of them is they make the manotany of the daily 9-5 routine fucking bearable when you feel shit about it."

PARDON?!
